Did i imagine this, or was there talks of a remaster of Clinchfield at some point? i recently bought this route, having never bought or played any US route, as i really like the idea of a predominantly-freight only route (as shown in my suggestion for a UK freight-dominated route here: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/uk-freight-route-yorkshire-and-nottinghamshire.81457/) The Clinchfield route took me completely by surprise, i love it! It's so immersive and scenic, with plenty of variety and multiple branch lines, it's an incredibly underrated route. so if there are plans for a remaster i'd love to know what exactly is planned. I'm not asking for a timeline on the release as it's a remaster, it could take any amount of time, but what is actually likely to be changed or enhanced when it does come would be great to know. and for anyone who doesn't yet own Clinchfield i'd highly recommend it, i paid full price for it and it's was honestly money well spent!
There is a remaster going on but it’s Matt’s personal side project. He hasn’t worked on it in a couple months i think he said a few weeks ago. But since it’s Matt, I’ve got high hopes that it turns out good (if it ever comes out) because of Matt’s love and enthusiast for U.S freight.
I've always liked this route as it so different. I believe the remaster is a personal project of one of the dtg staff, so I guess they only get chance to work on it in their spare time.
ahh is it Matt that's working on it? That sounds really promising then, i actually really like Clinchfield already it really surprised me just how much i enjoy it with the multiple branche lines and the scenery, so any enhancements made by Matt would be a really nice bonus!
My goal is to try and really progress it over the christmas break. I've got a lot of the route switched over and working well with Tod4 now, the SD40 banking comm is fixed, and the headlights on both trains look much more prototypical now - vastly different to how they were. Still a loooong way to go though Matt.
Hi Matt, that sounds great thanks for the update! I usually only buy UK routes but something about Clinchfield jumped out at me, it's completely different to anything else in game, and i love it so far i feel it's the route is a really relaxing and enjoyable experience. are there any plans to change or add anything to the timetable Matt? Not that i think it needs any amendments, i'm just curious as to what you are planning with this remaster!
Now, if there could be some lighting in those switching areas...... Having real headlights will be great, but that still leaves reversing moves (back up at 3 mph unjtil you hear the crunch)
Im also looking forward to the day we see the Clinchfield remaster..id like to see a csx layer timetable s scenarios have seperate timetables to select etc since CSX operates it today locomotives from SPG could be used and maybe add a CSX skin to ES44ac
While I know its not probably gonna happen, it would be nice if we got the Grey and Yellow paint for the SD40......
On PC there are mods for proper alternate liveries. But yeah, it would be good to get them "officially" so everyone can have them.
Unfortunately, that mod hasn't been updated and isn't compatible with newer TSW iterations (IIRC it has to do with the add-on managers or something)
After a 10 mph coupling attempt, I started moving the external camera to the target cars and watching my well-lit train approach from there.
Glad to hear it is coming along well, is there any plans to add additional locos like what is found in this list? https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/clinchfield-railroad-possible-dlc.86411
So one of the things i'm doing as part of the TOD4 upgrade is visiting everywhere there are switches and considering - would this be lit in real life? Would they really ask people to be in these areas in the pitch black? Does the lighting in the yard extend far enough? Is there lighting on all the coal loaders so that you can see what's going on here? The answer is often, not enough, add more. Still pretty pitch black in the areas between things, as it should be, but as i'm going along, the areas you work in are mildly lit now with a nice orangey glow representative of the area. I'm not looking at adding any stock. Will see when I get there - I have tons of notes. At the minimum, I want to review all of the times loops are used unnecessarily, and look at all the places trains can potentially interact and protect them with dependencies to prevent any deadlocks from occurring if you're running ahead or behind its expected performance. There are at least one or two further branch runs I kinda want to do too, and I may add a little coal loading - but that stuff is all going to be a huge time sink so we'll see how things go. I'm also going to rework the journey so that it isn't expecting you to do 99% of the tasks in the pitch dark as well by just altering some seasons etc around. As I say, it's still *really* dark at night out in the boonies - but - those new headlights sure make a huge difference. Matt.
This all sounds so interesting, really looking forward to seeing what you develop with all this Matt! i only recently discovered the Clinchfield DLC (i usually only go with UK routes as i like to drive places i'm familiar with in real life) but i wanted to experience something completely different, and Clinchfield is quickly becoming one of my favourite routes in the game, there's just a real atmosphere about it and i love the sheer variety of gameplay with all the different branches.. it's already a great route in my opinion so your enhancements as part of this remaster will turn a great route into an outstanding one, and i'm really looking forward to it, please keep us updated with how you're getting on Matt!
Very nice to read, especially the part about the unnecessary loops, one of my personal gripes. I would be interested to know if custom liveries could ever been enabled for any of the wagons, including the caboose. I seem to recall the liveries only appear on the locos in timetable mode. Either way, this project sounds great, thanks for putting so much time into it.
Sounds really great! I always liked Clinchfield, but I'm not playing it too often due to all the issues. But the route is so lovely and really deserves more attention, so I am really happy it is getting it. Also after all the care and remakes the UK routes are getting, it was really time some US content recieves the same care. Keep up the good work, and hopefully we can see it soonish! As for the additional liveries, what about getting in touch with the author of the alternate liveries mods? I believe there is a gray SD40 and a black F7 made, both working as standalone liveries alongside the original ones. If they could be ported over to be official, it would be pretty neat.
I don't know if I'm looking more forward to this or the GWE update. Make sure you leave time to enjoy Christmas Matt
I'm personally very excited about this one- Clinchfield has always been a great route but just let down by the atrocious lighting. Any chance we get the suspension update for the F7 and SD40? It's really hard to go back to the old trains without them...
I am not talking about the CC ones, but the ones from the modding site: https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/m...i3347-clinchfield-railroad-alternate-liveries While the ones on CC are also pretty well made, I prefer these as proper modded liveries will be higher definition and allow for proper dynamic road numbers.
One of the issues on the route is how much more powerful the F7 is when it’s an AI than it is when you’re driving it. It’s the same on Cajon Pass and on both routes AI services go faster up the hills than you can achieve, affecting the timings. If it can be better matched then it would solve some potential issues.
Agreed, I can't wait to see how good it turns out as I know matt had some work in the RSN timetable, one of the first routes ingame but still one of the best freight timetables I ever played. I got stuck on the first journey mode scenario on CJP and haven't found the time to learn how to run american stuff at all. but recently playing Railroader a lot I got new interest in that route. I will wait on Matt's project though. it might be a while but I have enough else to keep me busy.
No. There are several .pak livery mods now that add them as separate liveries. Just as the case with these two Cilnchfield liveries.
The talk about updated headlights and lit yards has me very excited. I love CRR, but the night runs are just not enjoyable on it to me. Thanks for the update and your hard work, Matt.
Honestly, I rather not see that unless we get some more paints for the boxcars, or more period accurate stock. A line of the red CRR boxcars is already a pain to look at, and we shouldn't rely on CC to fix everything.
