Creation Sharing [closed] My Route - Almtalbahn: Wels - Grünau Im Almtal

Hi everyone!
I wanted to share my progress on my own-built route for TSW4 in the PC Editor with you! Let´s get started!

My route is located in (Upper-)Austria and will go from Wels to Grünau im Almtal - the Almtalbahn. It is 43 kilometers long and has some interesting landmarks like the zoo in Wels or the castle ruins in Scharnstein. Here´s a route map that i have created:

In real life, the VT 5047 diesel railcar and/or the Reihe 5022 (in Germany the DB BR 642) are driving on this route. I´m planning to make a timetable where the DB BR 642 from Maintalbahn will layer into. Some AI trains (Reihe 4024 from S-Bahn Vorarlberg and some German freight trains) will go through Wels Hbf.
For now, it´s required to own the following DLCs:

• Maintalbahn
• S-Bahn Vorarlberg
• H̶a̶u̶p̶t̶s̶t̶r̶e̶c̶k̶e̶ ̶M̶ü̶n̶c̶h̶e̶n̶-̶A̶u̶g̶s̶b̶u̶r̶g̶
  
• Dresden-Riesa
• Hauptstrecke Hamburg-Lübeck
• Bahnstrecke Salzburg-Rosenheim
• Semmeringbahn

I´ve also managed to get the car from the Holiday Express DLC to drive around the route without any trains

Another Austrian route project! Lovely!

 

Some interesting facts i found out at https://www.openrailwaymap.org/

• There is PZB signalling system from Wels Hbf only over the railway bridge over the river Traun, after that, there´s no train protection anymore...that´s going to be fun
• The route´s top speed is 80 km/h, minimum speed is 40 km/h

My progress since the last post: A picture from the "Eisenbahnbrücke" (=railway bridge) that crosses the river Traun and connects Wels with Thalheim (with rail and a footbridge)

Now where i have the timetable service schedule complete, i discovered that there are plenty of demand stops. Should i build all of them into the services or should i do random stops? What do you think? (No worry, i'm still building the route!)

 

I think it is better if every train stops at all stations.

 

You can't create request stops in TSW (at least not at the moment). Lukas answered this question in german when raised in the Maintalbahn livestream (if the link does not work correctly, you can check the timestamps to find it or go to it, it's at 39:52.)

The only thing how you can simulate request stops is by creating a scenario with an individual service to stop at some stations and not on others.

So, you basically have two options:

A. Include all stations as non-request and regular stops in your service timetable.

B. Let them/some out of your timetable but create scenarios where you stop at them.

I personally would go with option A.

The feature request topic about request stops is also highly debated and frequently here in the forum. I was involved in several discussions where people either were pro or against it and think other things are more important to bring it into the game.

I also don't think DTG are actively interested to bring these in, which is okay to me.

 

Thanks for the explaining! I already knew that something like a request system doesn't work in TSW... I think i will build all of the stations into the services so there's more to do

 

I have already built a diagram about the positions/services of the trains on the route, a proper service schedule with all stopping times is following soon!

I only have information about the passenger runs, not about parking at sidings or ECS moves, but Wels Hbf. has only two platforms for the trains to Grünau, so i had to park at least one train at the sidings, which will fill that part a little bit...
But ECS Moves in the dark night with no stops to serve, doesn´t sound it like fun?

Happy to hear that! It´s hard work building in the editor 1-2 hours every day (without big UE4 knowledge!) and delete half of the track becuase the height doesn´t fit with the lidar data, then lay it again...but I hope that this work is worth it!

How far the tracks are built at the moment:
I´ve also replaced the signal box (from Munich main station for those, who haven´t recognized it so far) with a self-built signal box, similar to the real one, but without any windows further down because i built it with blocks from UE4 and i DONT want to model buildings like this in blender (i just dont have time for that!)
At last, i´ve also discovered a carloader in the Vorarlberg Scenery Content...interesting what DTG wanted to do with that...

Maybe someone would be willing to help you out with modelling the signal box.

 

how did this avoid my radar for so long lol ... Austrian route, a local one, with a chance to drive 5047 which I experienced as a passenger on both sections of Aspangbahn from Wien Hbf to Wiener Neustadt Hbf... shut up and take my money

lots of rails, tracks, switches, yay dunno, am I the only one who loves the sound train makes when going over a switch? especially at lower speeds... like when going out of a station, or approaching one

I like that sound too, especially with the vectron or with the BR 642 in curves

I actually don´t know him personally but i think he is much faster than me in building routes, which is an advantage...but we´re all here to have fun with the routes we build and not to compete against each other!

I've seen the location in the last screenshot a couple of times and all I can say is that I've never seen a more realistic simulation of a specific place. Really nice work there

Let me guess you found the Ddm car carrier that is supposed to be detached from the sleeper train that runs Wien Hbf Bregenz Autoreisezug to Feldkirch. The other route is Feldkirch Villach Karawankenbahn route this one is seen in Voralbergbahn as a 1216 1116 combination which requires it to climb the Alps twice Arlbergbahn & Tauernbahn
If you look at the car license plates on the Ddm you might find the local FK B DO BZ Österreich Feldkirch Bregenz Dornbirn Bludenz District license plates neighboring Switzerland Schweiz Kanton St Gallen Glarus Graubünden Appenzell Zürich SG GR ZH GL AR AI

 

Let me guess you're trying to use Maintalbahn DB Baureihe 642 as an Austrian ÖBB Baureihe 5022.

 

No, its a completely new experience, because there IRL threre's a "Zugleitbetrieb", which works with radio contact, see here (is in german): https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zugleitbetrieb

 

Yes, i have already figured out how to make repaints and i will include the new and as a bonus the old livery (which isn't on the rails anymore) The livery won't contain brands, maybe fictive ones

 

since DTG already have the ÖBB license I guess It shouldn’t be a problem to bring it in though, right? Or am I missing something :‘D

and btw the screenshots look really really nice.

 

and hopefully in some future updates of Livery Designer they make it available to save certain shapes/logos that you make, so you can use them in future liveries cos some logos and such can be a pain in the aaaaaa to do all over again

 

So, after being a little bit sick this week, i decided to build ALL of the tracks first, that I can install the complete signal network over the route. My plan is that i place signals under the terrain, so that the dispatcher has a signal and the player no signals to see (like in the real "Zugleitbetrieb") - I´ve already tested that on a seperate testmap. Ingame you will have to contact the signaller at every station or look at the HUD
The route map so far and how Scharnstein-Mühldorf looks at the moment: I guess that i am finished with track laying at least at Friday!

 

I'm amazed that the development is progressing so quickly, I only live about 15 kilometres away from the route and I'm really looking forward to it. If you need Pictures from the real Route, I can took some and send it to you.

I have now made a better route map, where i can show the progress of scenery building in a different way. I have also included some landmarks along the route and will update the map from time to time - have fun with it

Also, the complete route is now signalled and I already drove the complete route from Wels to Grünau. At the beginning, there were a few problems, but now the problems are solved and trains don´t derail along the route or get stuck at red singals (That problem is going to be fun when I set up the timetable). Now I am again building scenery and can also begin with the timetable, when scenery is getting boring...

 

Have you ever thought about putting in an ICE or IC as AI train? (At least back in time) ICE 1 trains used to run between Vienna and Germany. There was also one german IC travelling from Linz to Frankfurt via Salzburg. So that would be interesting.

 

When I figured out, how layers with other DLCs work, I can make German ICs with a ÖBB Rh 1116. I think I won´t include ICE 1 or 3 trains, as they don´t drive through Wels Hbf nowadays. (The Almtalbahn is set at beginning of this year) Maybe ICE 3 trains but I will see how that works for me!
For now, I have thought of following AI trains at Wels:

• ÖBB 4024 (Not quite accurate as they are nowadays in modern livery, but never mind!)
• ÖBB 1116 + Bmz (Don´t run anymore since the Railjet took over the IC services on the Westbahn, but there has to be a little bit of variety in AI services...)
• BR 185.2 / BR 185.5 (They will do cargo services from Passau/Salzburg to Linz and back again)

I think of adding Hamburg-Lübeck to the required DLCs, to be able to add the BR 182 MRCE and also some assets from there, but I don´t know if HBK has so many new assets I can use.

EDIT: I now use Hamburg-Lübeck too, there are some important level crossing assets, as well as the MRCE BR 182, and some other assets!

Thank you all so much for the good words! For someone like me, who never heard about UE4 before, is that amazing to hear that my work is appreciated so much. Quite interesting that everyone thinks my route is very detailed, because I dont feel like investing hours and hours in decorating locations, but I aporeciate very much!

 

Fantastic work so far - very impressive! Have you considering getting in touch with DTG about being a third-party? I ask as this is a route I'd certainly would love to play on console.

 

Actually no, as I not really want to do something money-related. I´m very sorry but hopefully, DTG will work on a solution for this distribution problem!

 

DTG Alex little suggestion - would you mind sharing this route project on the next roadmap as well? It looks fantastic and needs some more appreciation
