    Overview

I feel like CN Oakville Subdivision has a lot of missing potential. Well today, I hope to fix that by suggesting an expansion and overhaul of the route.

    Route Info

The original route goes from Hamilton to Oakville and primarily focuses on switching and local freight. And while that would still be a big part of my proposed expansion, it would also introduce passenger and heavy freight. The expansion will go from Hamilton to Toronto Union Station. This would make the route about 37 miles long (60 kilometers). The route does also go past Hamilton to Niagara Falls, but that would make the route 80 miles long (133 kilometers). This wouldn’t be too unrealistic for TSW, but I’m going to focus on the section between Hamilton and Toronto for now.

    Rolling Stock

Along with the GP38 and GP9 that came with the original route, some new rolling stock that can be added are as follows:

    Timetable

Assuming the time table is based around the busier weekdays, GO Transit trains operate every 30 minutes between Toronto and Aldershot, while trains every 60 minutes continue towards Niagara Falls, bypassing Hamilton. Eleven daily express trains also operate along the line. Four of them operate between Toronto and Hamilton two to West Harbor, two to Aldershot, and three to Niagara Falls. There could also be way more switching in the yards along the route, being able to access every little branch line and factory. Heavy freight would also be introduced with more powerful locomotives such as the ES44AC.

    Conclusion

A route like this would truly be a great addition, it would bring new life to the route and allow for unique services. Let me know what you guys think and what else could be added.

Oakville really needs an overhaul. For freight we have Geeps only. And passenger services don't exist. Especially mainline freight is missing so much there.

think DTG may have already tried this and wasnt successful. Because for a good while on TSW3 roadmap a large update for Oakville was being listed then dissappeared

Even if Go Transit isn't possible, they should give us relistic long freight trains with Gevos and SD70Ace for OSD.

I would love to see this. I would ignore the rest of the Grimsby Sub (Niagara Falls) but add Hamilton GO Centre on the CPKC Hamilton Sub (the line that runs parallel and then diverges south of Bayview Junction) and of course the eastern end of the Oakville Sub (Union Station). Locomotive wise you could also add the GMDD F59PH.

Timetable wise currently it's all day hourly service between Toronto - Aldershot and hourly Toronto - West Harbour. There is 3 Niagara Falls trains per day (one stopping at West Harbour and other 2 skipping several stations). The rush hour express services (serve all stations to Clarkson then run non stop to Union) are 4 Hamilton GO Centre, 2 West Harbour, 2 Aldershot and 1 Niagara Falls (as mentioned above). Finally there is 5 Toronto - Oakville stopping services running along side the rush hour express services. The ultimate timetable before electrification would add all day twice hourly service Toronto - Oakville (currently running on the weekends only). So you would have 4 trains an hour to Oakville, 2 to Aldershot and 1 to West Harbour.

After electrification is anyone's guess at the moment as they are quoting a train every 5 minutes during rush hour between Toronto - Burlington. This would include new electric rolling stock plus the installation of ETCS L2.

Via Rail is 10 trains per day (4 Windsor round trips and 1 London round trip) and 2 Amtrak/Via trains (1 New York Penn round trip).

The timetable information I got was probably pre-covid timetables. But whichever version is busier Is what’s more likely to be added. And adding Via Rail would be really cool! Although it would probably be more likely to be a locomotive dlc or something.

Or a in city route where you do switching work for local business like a Sarnia route? With CSX or CN or even CPKC, they’ve yet to touch the local switching side of the freight market of railway work.

Glad to see so much interest in expanding this route. Love the suggestions. This route has so much potential for freight scenarios with all the sidings along the route. It is so under utilized and limited by the paths. Would be great to be able to pick up and drop off cars all along the route and open the Oakville yard. So limited in what we can do now. Remaster the route to include portals and path linking. Could make quite a busy route if portals were available. Please listen to your community and acknowledge us.
