Armstrong Powerhouse have achieved in 2019 a major milestone for Train Simulation for their Class 37 package, cold start! We've wanted this feature for many years now. Here it appears AP have tagged along with Master Key Simulations to achieve this milestone, so you may need to find them or get 3rd party support to achieve cold start simulation.

You can follow this on here: https://www.armstrongpowerhouse.com/class_37_locomotive_pack_vol_1?search=class 37

TSW2 must in my opinion invest time and resources into achieving cold starts. We're in 2021 now. So where you;d begin with is, you'd pick on a locomotive from WSR line which are in the preserved and heritage side of things. If that works out then you'd slowly apply it to more engines as the months go on.

The idea is to basically if the temperature is low, that means you will get to experience a cold start of the engine. This means the game must then allow you to start your scenario with the engine off, not pre-heated as it currently is. Would apply to scenarios or services mostly which requires you to bring trains into services for example or fire up a locomotive and do the daily freight operations.

The cold start can be admired on this promo video from 10:24 onward:

Whilst the demo video has snow and ice, you probably just need a really cold day of 0.1 degrees and bellow.
