So after a few false starts, here’s a couple of hints I figured for others who might have similar issues to those I noted when cold-starting the SD-40s in Training Center:

    1. Be sure to sit in the driver’s seat for the loco you’re trying to start to “activate” that loco. Even with the proper cab set up to start, the engine would not crank if I hadn’t taken the engineer’s seat first.

    2. Be sure to release the parking brakes out on the short hood end of both locomotives. I got everything started up and rolling but had poor motive power and heard brake squeal despite having all air brakes properly set up and released. Popped out of the cab and noted the parking brakes had been (properly) set whilst the locos were parked and dark.

    Cheers!
