Introduction Hello, today I'm suggesting a feature that i think is missing from TSW that would be really nice to see. Cold Starts. What are cold Starts? Cold Starts is when you start a (normally Deisel)train ("from cold") when the engine has been off for a while and you have to work a bit more to get it going. What's included in cold starting a train? Start engine/aux power. If Deisel then turn on compressor speed up and wait for air pressure to build in the main reservoir tank. Raise Pantograph (if electric overhead) Set headlight. Set passenger lights Set GSMR Test NRM Radio (see other suggestion)* Reset AWS and Vigilance Device Set P.I.S/Destination display If applicable set TMS system Test signal buzzer Test doors system Brake test Test hazard lights Ready to depart. Conclusion It's more about having the functionality of building up air pressure and the extra clagg that comes out the train because of that. It just adds a bit more. I also think being able to spawn a train in cold in free roam/Timetable or in a custom scenario would be very cool too. Let me know what you think below. ------------------------------------------------------------- *NRM Radio functionality suggestion available here: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/nrm-radio.76599/
I support the idea if it was ONLY for services which have been stabled for a long time, such as overnight in a depot, station etc.
More realistic features will pretty much always get my support hopefully they could adjust the timetable appropriately for what I’m assuming would be depot services with any locos what get this feature, I certainly don’t like being late for stops and it does sound like this feature may push the 2 minute start ups
Honestly. This would be best for routes like West Cornwall local, NTP where trains are waiting around for an hour or more. Hell, there's even a 385 at Edinburgh Waverley that should cold start seen as it's been sitting on the platform for the better part of a day til 5pm. Oh yes. 2 min start ups will probably be more like a generous 5 mins which is what we really need. It takes about 2 mins to set up all the safety systems along with the basics (and TMS if on edb-glq). The 1 mins on Edinburgh to Glasgow is not enough. Some services on the 801 barely give me time to set the train up so I think 4/5mins would be much more appropriate if this feature was added.
Great suggestion, I think cold starts would look fantastic on diesel locomotives as you get the clag coming out the exhaust as the engine starts up, which would make for some awesome screenshots thanks to Photo Mode Here is a video where a cold start features flames :
This feature in my opinion should be a must have option in a future updates. It shouldn't be a huge problem to have a "cold start" option while spawning a train in free roam or timetable or even when we start one of the services. I would just to love to start cold desel or electric train. In many places, especially on USA or German routes, cold start should be something natural. While diesel engines isn't stopped so often, electic locos, standing on backyards have its pantographs lowered down!
In fact, this mode is available in the schedule mode. I remember how I forgot how to get TGV and had to return to training.
