Cologne - Mainz in the 1980s
    The Route
The route covers the 152 kilometre (94 mile) route from Cologne HBF to Mainz HBF via Bonn and Koblenz on the western side of the River Rhine. Along the route, there is excellent scenery, with the route following the river Rhine, and passing many landmarks also. By extending the route to Mainz, unlike the TS1 route, which only goes to Koblenz, a much more scenic part of the route would be added, which would improve the route considerably.
In TS1, Germany lacked historical routes, something which should not happen in TSW. By creating the route set in the 1980s, it will be significantly different to other German routes in TSW, with completely different locomotives and rolling stock as well as different liveries.

The DB BR 103 between Koblenz and Mainz in 1984
The DB BR 103 was introduced in the early 1970s as the main InterCity locomotive in West Germany, with a maximum speed of 200 km/h, though the Cologne - Mainz route only allows speeds up to 160 km/h. This loco would operate the fastest services on the route, stopping only at the major stations. It would also be the first German InterCity train featured in TSW, providing a different driving experience to previous routes.

Built in the 1950s as part of DB's Einheits-Elektrolokomotive (standard electric locomotive) plan, the DB BR 140 originally hauled freight services in West Germany, but later also hauled commuter services, making it possible for this loco to run both freight and passenger services on this route. With a maximum speed of 110 km/h, this loco was considerably slower than the DB BR 103 as well.

Also part of the Einheits-Elektrolokomotive plan, the DB BR 141 was designed to haul local passenger services, and had a slightly faster top speed than the DB BR 140, 120 km/h. This loco could operate on the same services as the DB BR 140 on this route.
