Hello to everyone, I'm an italian fan of the american railroad and of the train, I want to suggest a route of the railroad company Conrail before it is merge, for the locomotive on one of the route I would suggest are EMD GP9 on Conrail Livery (Number are 7000-7559, it owned 600 EMD GP9 Conrail), EMD SD70MAC in Conrail Quality white face livery, Conrail (Number are 4130-4144) , EMD SW1500 in Conrail Quality blue livery (Number are of two series 9151-9194 and 9200-9296) EMD SD45-2 in Conrail Quality blue livery (Number are 6654-6666), GE Dash8-40CW in Conrail Quality blue livery (Number are 6050-6265) and for end EMD F7 A unit and EMD F7B Unit on Conrail Blue Livery there was only one F7 A unite painted on blue the other was on Penn Central Livery and Erie Lackawanna livery (Number of the F7 A Unit are 1639-1894, for the F7 B Unit are 3850-3874) This is the map, I'm undecided on what route chose, suggestion for chose the route and the year are welcome.
This is the rest of the image, Conrail buyed the F7 A Unit and B unit from other company like Penn Central, Erie Lackawanna and Denver and Rio Grande Western.
Well Conrail exists primarily in 3rd party circle via reskins though an actual Conrail route on the Steam store would be phenomenal. I would also welcome a proper Dash 8-40CW since the existing one is to CSX specifications. The question is whether this would be early Conrail or late Conrail. Early Conrail used a lot of predecessor equipment, like the GP9s and F-Units. Later you started getting standardization with Dash 7s, 8s, Dash 2s and the like.
They didn't buy them, they gained control of those units when the government merged those railroads into Conrail
Yes, but the SD80MAC was unique to Conrail iirc as they were the only ones to purchase them. There is nothing that says Conrail in its later years like the SD80MAC. A C40-8W would be good to have too, and it could even have layers on SPG since CSX got a number of Conrail Dash-8s in the 1999 split. If the route is a later route. A earlier route set in the late 1970s would be cool since many of Conrail's locomotive roster had yet to receive the blue paint with white lettering.
It's also funny how the ubiquitous SD40-2 hasn't been brought up yet, though we have no need for one considering...
What, the SD80MAC? I think they could be used on any Conrail route, but they frequented lines like the HSC route. Since we already have that, I would say maybe something in Ohio.
Here's a Conrail Map set in 1976. http://www.multimodalways.org/docs/railroads/companies/CR/CR Maps/CR System Maps/CR System Map 3-16-1976.pdf Perhaps we can use this map to choose a route, though it can only be 60-70 miles long maximum. I think a candidate could be Ashtabula, OH to Erie, PA, a distance of 40 miles as the crow flies. (Perhaps short, but it would be easy to do for DTG). Plus they technically do have a Conrail license from NS in the GEVO Heritage Units pack. Since the route would go through Conneaut, perhaps we can have some unbranded BLE stock. (As previously DTG and Canadian National had a disagreement over it). Or simply leave Conneaut empty. EDIT: I think extending to route to Painesville would be better, since then both areas would have yard facilities and the two alternate routes in the area.
I would lay the addon out as follows: Train Simulator: Big Blue: Conrail Painesville - Erie Route Add-On $39.99 Route: - Entire Route from Painesville to Erie, including yards and surrounding trackage for context. Rolling Stock: - GE Dash 8-40B (The token newbie that could be the selling point for most; just modify the widecab version) - GE Dash 8-40CW (Conrail spec, something that people have been wanting for years) - EMD SD80MAC (something people would like as well) - EMD SD40-2 (because it is required) - EMD GP38 (for road switching) - EMD SW1500 (yards) - All other classic DTG rolling stock.
So unfortunately, I learned of a massive snag in this proposal, Dovetail apparently doesn't hold a Conrail license, as I learned from Travel By Train (Who is planning to release a Conrail pack on their store).
Well... I still wonder whether they could get one. Since as far as I know they haven't even tried Conrail. Except I'm not sure who you would contact, Norfolk Southern, CSX, or the CSAO company? Would this be licensed under the Shared Assets company, or NS?
I would assume it would be thru CSAO, based on this on their website: https://www.conrail.com/intellectual-property/ But I think the Conrail Heritage Unit falls under Norfolk Southern.
I believe the license would come from CSAO. The Buffalo & Pittsburgh had a unit that a vandal added the Conrail name and logo and CSAO told B&P to remove the name from the engine. And NS had to get permission from CSAO to use their name and logo on a heritage unit
