   Often it crashes just trying to launch a route, or dies a minute in.

   This happened to me lastnight,a steam file verification graphics driver update and pc restart seemed to resolve the issue for me

   Well, I found the problem: running under DX12 overwhelms my paltry 4GB of VRAM. In DX11 it runs (but doesn't look as good)
