Welcome aboard the Ventimiglia–Cannes railway line, a cross-border route along the Mediterranean coast, bordering Italy and France. This scenic route takes you through breathtaking landscapes, historic stations, coastal tunnels, and international railways with a mix of passenger and regional traffic. Route: Ventimiglia – Cannes Length: Approximately 60 km Features: Double electrified track (Italian 3kV DC system up to Ventimiglia, then French 25kV AC) Mixed Italian/French signaling with voltage changes after Ventimiglia Seascapes, tunnels, sharp curves, and fast sections Main stops: Ventimiglia Menton Gravan Menton Carnolès Roquebrune-Cap-Martin Monaco–Monte-Carlo Èze-sur-Mer Cap d'Ail Èze Beaulieu-sur-Mer Villefranche-sur-Mer Nice Riquier Nice-Ville Nice Saint-Augustin Saint-Laurent-du-Var Cagnes-sur-Mer Villeneuve-Loubet Antibes Juan-les-Pins Golfe-Juan-Vallauris Cannes Types of Trains Used Regional Trains (TER PACA): Z 26500 “TER 2N NG” – double-decker train, widely used between Cannes and Ventimiglia Z 55500 “Regio 2N” – modern and quiet, good for frequent services Long-distance Trains: TGV Duplex (only to Nice-Ville) – some continue to Ventimiglia but with trains suitable for voltage changes Freight Trains: Operators such as SNCF Fret and Thello Cargo (example scenarios) Scenario 1 – "Border Morning" Depart Cannes at 6:30 a.m. on a TER Z 26500 bound for Ventimiglia. Make all intermediate stops. Watch out for the voltage change after Monaco! Scenario 2 – "Riviera Express" Drive a semi-direct train from Nice to Monaco with only major stops. You'll need to maintain tight schedules and control braking on coastal curves. Scenario 3 – "Night Freight Train" Drive a freight train from Nice-Ville to Ventimiglia, passing through dark tunnels and dimly lit sections. Be careful about connecting with passenger trains. I hope you like this idea and that it will be available on the new TSW6 soon.
