I like the idea of a route in a sunny subtropical location that isn't in America again.Portugal would have many scenic routes to offer i.e Lisbon to Cascais, the Douro valley, Lisbon to Evora, the Alfa Pendular, I don't know how the situation with licencing is but could it happen?
You also have Sintra - Lisbon, would be very nice to have in TSW4. A suburban and busy line with lot of variety in terms of destinations
Very rateable rolling stock to ride on in that route though the scenery isn't really the best that Portugal has to offer tbh unless you want the Portuguese equivalent of Birmingham to Wolverhampton.
I think best would be to post this in the suggestion section of the forum. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/forums/suggestions.75/ CP might even license it, and there're for sure stunning routes of the exotic Iberian gauge. Cais do Sodré to Cascais would be a classic, Linha do Oeste all the way up to Coimbra (pick a section) or Tunes to Lagos could be tempting. Apart from what has been mentioned already. But commercially, most probably, it'd be a disaster. So, not much hope to ever see it in TSW, I'm afraid.
Thanks for the response, would it commercially be a disaster? Lots of Brits, Northern Europeans, even Americans visit Portugal, many I think would enjoy seeing something slightly different featuring in the series so there is surely a market.
Well, you and me would buy it, for sure. But I guess we can argue forever over the market potential. Only a professional market study *might* figure how thirsty the portuguese rail fans are. Why would DTG consider this? My only hope would be that DTG finally gives in and implements TSC like editing (and baking!) tools for TSW. So that the portuguese rail fan community - and they're quiiiiiiite passionate, I know for sure - takes over and goes through the troubles of licensing with CP, the specific route signaling, exotic gauge requirements and whatnot to build the route for the community. One can dream ...
I'm not following TSC, but this discussion raises the question: Given the vast TSC route landscape, do we have anything portuguese available there?
The Portugese Rail Fan community are already working on a portugese railway in the Editor. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/portuguese-community-tsw4-mods.78938/#post-801404 They even created custom portugese assets like speed limits or tracks.
Yep, I was following this. But can they share a newly build route, assets, trains etc etc etc? On PC for starters, consoles will be yet another story?
They seem to be very passionate about their projects and work very sophisticated. Licensing etc. is a different thing and can be complicated indeed, but I got high hopes in this project, even though it may take a while. "Can they share anything from now?" - No, noone of us really can at the moment (at least in the official way). I saw the cooking fix yes but didn't work with it, yet. I also have doubts if it works with a full route project consisted of several GBs. A community creator said it wouldn't work for them. I'll give it a try somewhen in the near future I guess. Maybe once they got it ready, I guess they going to cooperate with DTG to get it to consoles. I don't see a big issue on that. But I think it's kind of weird to talk about people and their work off their presence. So I would like to tag nunowow#4079 , BRD, esbeleleu#8827 and jpcpt#6971 to join the discussion.
My answer to this topic is: we are "cooking", so keep an eye out on: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/portuguese-community-tsw4-mods.78938/. We have so much in our hands, and we have not been posting in the forums for quite some reasons. We are hard at work, in the small branch in the Lisbon > Porto Line. we develop as we work, so at this time, we take the approach of fast prototyping iterations until it's working and working well. We do want do develop all the routes in Portugal, Rolling Stock and assets, but it will take a while. We are 9 creators at work in our free time, so this things, they take some time. But I'm glad that there is interest in seeing Portugal in TSW.
