I opted for the ‘Deluxe Edition’ of TSW4 and everything installed just fine. I also now have all my routes from TSW3. However, although timetable runs and scenarios etc. start OK, I have a crash to desktop after about 10-15 minutes every time. I have not added any mods. My system specs are: - Windows 11 - 12th Gen Intel i9-12900k processor - nVidia Geforce RTX3080Ti graphics card - 64 GB RAM - System drive: 1TB Seagate FireCuda 530 internal SSD - Steam installation (including TSW4) is on a 2TB Seagate FireCuda 530 internal SSD - BenQ SW321C 32” monitor running at 3840x2160px 60 Hz refresh rate Based on these specs, I should be able to run everything on Ultra settings and I’m getting 60 fps which is the limit I have applied in TSW4 settings based on my monitor's refresh rate. I need to add that I had the same problems with TSW3. I did wonder whether the temperature of the graphics card was the reason for these crashes. It reaches 80-85 deg C quite quickly on fairly intensive routes but doesn’t go over that. I checked the specification for the RTX3080Ti on nVidia’s website and the maximum temperature quoted there is 93 deg C. I have tried lowering the settings to ‘Medium’ and this has reduced the graphics card temperature to 76-78 deg C but I am still getting CTDs on these settings. This is the Unreal Crash Reporter I get each time: Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hey - please head here and we'll try to help: https://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com...shooting-crashes-other-technical-issues-guide There's a list of steps you can take, and instructions on some files you can send if the steps don't work, with a Support Ticket. Hope these help!
Your specs are almost exactly the same as mine - I have not had any crashes, and am running Ultra on all settings with no fps limit . While fans are running high - I have not had any crashes and my temps while a bit elevated are not overly high. So just might be a cooling problem
Yes, those specs are very close to mine also and, like LeadCatcher, I've not experienced any CTD's running on Ultra at 4k. Every PC has its own unique DNA and this sounds like something peculiar to your individual machine. Background activity would be the first thing to check. Take a look at your Task Manager to see what's eating up your resources. Make sure you're checking memory useage. Then look at your start-up programs. Are they all necessary? Be careful not to remove essential Windows and MS items. You can hide these from accidental deletion. With your configuration, you shouldn't be having regular CTD's. One last thing. Though a long shot, go into Nvidia Control Panel and make sure you're using only your 3080 graphics card and not internal graphics.
Thanks for moving the thread JD. I did think of creating it here but thought it may get more response on the 'General Discussion' section! I had checked out the Troubleshooting Guide but couldn't see anything obvious, i.e. mods etc. I'll look again, together with the other suggestions posted on here. Thanks again.
Thanks LeadCatcher. On the 'Medium' settings, it crashed at 78 deg C which, although the fan was working quite hard, is still well within the recommended limit quoted by nVidia. I may see what happens if I run it on the lowest settings with lower temperatures..
Thanks Crosstie. I had already removed most of the unnecessary start-up programs although still had two which I have now taken off. I've checked the nVidia Control Panel and confirmed it is only the 3080 card being used. I also checked that all drivers were up-to-date, which they were. Finally, following advice in the DTG Troubleshooting Guide, I added TSW4 to 'Silent Mode' in my Norton Antivirus settings. I ran TSW4 again and changed all my graphics settings to 'Ultra'. Everything ran fine, the graphics card temperature didn't exceed 82 deg and it was all stable. Well, for at least 45 minutes ... and then another crash! Anyway, thanks for your advice, I really thought I had cracked it. So, back to the drawing board.
I don't know if it is of any help. I was having problem running games with my GTX1050, what I found was that the drivers were the problem. I ended up having to use an older driver to get the games to work.
I don't think it can be a graphics card driver problem as the crashes have occurred in both TSW3 and TSW4 with many different drivers. Thanks anyway.
Just to provide an update on this. Yesterday evening, I started a timetable run from London Victoria on the 'London Commuter' route after changing my settings back to 'Ultra'. After the run came up, I exited the cab and then waited by the lineside to see what would happen if I did nothing, i.e.no key strokes or any other action to trigger a CTD. After 15 minutes, the game froze and returned me to the Steam screen, i.e. another CTD. The graphics card temperature was 82 deg C, well within the limit set by nVidia for an RTX3080Ti card. Out of interest, I then ran TSC. Starting a scenario on a busy route, it ran flawlessly with similar temperatures to those on TSW4, 80-82 deg C. I have now raised a support ticket for my TSW4 problem.
