I'll be honest, CC doesn't really interest me but I thought I'd give it a try after the initial hype for launch died down. A number of things caught my eye: 1- Y'all really need to invest in a better web host and services. The dovetail website has always been slow and that has bled into CC within the game. I don't have a slow internet connection, and there's a lot that takes several seconds (sometimes 10-20 seconds) to load. It honestly makes me wonder if you're using the full res images that are 1080p or 4k rather than scaling them down to something sensible for the UI and then sending them over the network. 2- What an experience trying to get DTL to work. I had been signed in, but apparently not actually signed in. I couldn't remember my password so I had to reset so CC would actually work, and in the process found I have two emails I've used to sign into DTL, neither of which have actually been active (as they both show empty progress). I did get that all sorted, though, and I guess its working now cause at least CC loads content now Once I got into CC, the UI does match the rest of TSW, except it doesn't. What's really weird is the redesigned main menu interface was clearly aimed at controllers, whether or not anybody admits that. I got an Xbox controller at christmas for my PC and the CC UI is essentially incompatible with a controller (it works, but not very well). But even keyboard/mouse support isn't where it should be. Search is rather basic, but that's a well known issue. But I'm also finding that search isn't always working correctly. I was looking for a 423 livery, so I typed in '423' and got some results. But in the main menu, I was discovered some entries with '423' in their title that were not showing up in the search results. The textbox doesn't focus automatically when you click on search. Even better would be to integrate search directly into the main page UI, rather than it being a separate page you have to hit a button for. Mousewheel has no effect on horizontal scrolling. Building on the horizontal scrolling - you shouldn't have your entire layout built on horizontal scrolling (this is my same stance as the main menu UI, its just bad design) - show the 6 previews for the section "Most Popular", "Most Recent", etc. and have "see more..." button that loads a dedicated page, vertically scrolling, of previews for liveries or scenarios. Especially with how many entries there are now. It also seems each "page" in the navigation stack actually has 2 pages before the navigation page is actually incremented - which is confusing. So below, instead of 1/205, I'm actually on 2/510 The date format for when something was uploaded isn't localized to the user's locale. No date format is superior (to avoid causing any date wars in replies - just pls don't), but as I'm used to the American/US date format, it looks odd - and honestly can be confusing depending on the actual date (3/1/22 vs 1/3/22) It would also be a nice feature to add if we could copy the description text. If a description is in German, I have no idea what that says - and obviously localizing description texts isn't possible - and I can't fault the author either. But it'd be nice to be able to copy it and throw it into Google translate. Also, I think it needs to be in the requirements, particularly for scenarios, the author needs to include a competent description. I came across a scenario where it was just one word like 'lol' or something silly, which isn't helpful. It doesn't need to be a novel and explain every little detail, but enough I can gather whether it's interesting enough for me to download. Most people seem to be doing this though, so that's good And finally, not related to the UI but still important: please get rid of duplicate vehicles in TSW. I know that's a big ask and a big project - but we're getting to the point where it's difficult to keep track of what is what. I downloaded a 423 livery I wanted to use, and it turns out the 423 for SKA with the expansion pack A) isn't recognized in livery designer, and B) doesn't map to the existing 423 from HMA. So it's clearly not just impacting us as players (see the 700 million Dostos we have), but also you as devs. I fear this will only get worse as TSW continues to expand
One big thing i would like to see is the ability to use images that aren't in Dovetail Live for items you are uploading to CC. The ability to just upload an image from the hard drive of either your PC or console would be great. I have plenty of saved images of my liveries that I have used on these very forums but I am unable to use any of them in CC and I am now having to obtain images of every single item I want to upload to CC again so as to save them to Dovetail Live instead. Now with a loco this isn't much of an issue as you know you're going to be getting that loco in game as you selected it in the menu but with rolling stock it is taking ages to manage to capture each item of stock in game when it randomly spawns.... Even creating and constantly editing a custom scenario doesn't help much as then the item of stock would be limited to that single item rather than at least having the chance to have 4 or 5 custom items appear in game each time.
Not to be a party pooper but in under 24 hours of this functionality being available we'd have a demonstration of "why can't we have nice things?" Since TSW is rated for all ages of player we have to be strict when it comes to moderation (and that's before you get to the licenses minefield.)
Never thought of that....... How about upping the amount of custom items that can spawn in each time then to make it easier to get an image of the item required??? The current limit of 5 or 6 seems a little low especially now we have such long trains in game.
I had a look at it, found it clunky and left. I couldn’t be bothered to scroll through 50 pages . I’ll give it another whirl sometime no doubt.
