I remember there was a DLC loco for CSX Heavy Haul in TSW1 (was it a GP38?). Will it be made for TSW2, or will it be abandoned simply because it was associated with NEC or because they don't want to redo the loco for the 'new' SPG? And aren't there liveries in CSX for TSW1 that aren't in TSW2's SPG? Spoiler Before you start shouting at me, I don't actually own TSW2, nor do I have the PC version of TSW1 or the CSX DLC on PS4 because you can't but it separately.
I still find it odd they won't bring the GP40-2 over, externally, there is very minimal differences between it and a GP38-2, (They share the same frame) the prime mover is the same in the SD40-2 (EMD 16-645E3), and like all EMD locomotives at the time, it uses the same Spartan Cab design. (I assume the only real issue is the in-cab signaling that was used for the NEC route) While I don't think the preserve collection version of the GP40-2 will come over (Due to the whole NEC thing) I do think we will see the GP40-2 as a DLC in the future as a standalone loco, or bundled with a new route.
Interestingly, both Clinchfield and Cane Creek will come with an SD40-2. That will make three liveries for this locomotive. Will be intriguing to compare their external and internal details as well as their sound and performance.
Clinchfield is supposed to come with a standard SD40, not an SD40-2, as the CRR only owned 5 Dash 2s and those came in Family Lines paint. And there is external differences between a SD40 and SD40-2. (Trucks and frame length)
Oops, Clinchfield comes with an SD40. Still, comparison will be interesting, though the Dash2 is slightly longer, I think.
I suspect that the issue has nothing with the physical resemblance of the locomotives and everything to do with the underlying codebase and previous techniques incompatible with the newer game. Cheers
Or it could be that the old one simply didn't sell well, as it's way, way too similar to two of the included locos. You can see it as either a B-B SD40-2 or a slightly more powerful GP38-2, but either way it doesn't bring enough new to the table to be a tempting $14 purchase. Now, if they had instead leveraged the GP-9 from Oakdale...... (Actually, I think we will be seeing that, with Clinchfield)
I agree. I got it some years ago mostly for some diversity in trains back when there was little other content. The proposition of an NEC substitution as well as included steel coil and centerbeam freight cars was an alright deal for the sale price I had bought it at. But I do not think I would consider it now with the other freight options on the horizon. Also, is it $14 for you? On Steam US, locomotive DLCs are a whopping $20 for some reason. I do not understand this locomotive price upcharge for the U.S. market. Cheers
Maybe the GP40-2 can come to TSW2 in the future as a pack with other road names similar to what TS2021 has with its GP40-2 pack. (Once we get more NA routes of course).
That's the point, isn't it. How long will it be before we have enough NA routes and locomotives to make it worthwhile for High Iron or some other 3rd party to generate a GP40-2 or CSX or UP or NS scenario pack? I'm thinking years. And, without an editor or an enhanced scenario planner, we can't do "workshop" scenarios. Not much "layering" either. We Americans are severely limited. Sorry to go off topic.
