Hey guys, I'm new to the game, however I can already see that the game does a pretty bad job of introducing things. I'm doing the first missions, and on Fully Fueled I was succesfully able to set up the banking comm after googleing it, because the game forgets to tell you about that. I'm on the Cumberland Charge now, where now finally the game tells me about it (pretty late), I'm following the tutorial steps, but for whatever reason the trailing second engine does not want to change it's throttle, leading me to believe that there's a fault somewhere in the setup (again, instructions are given by the tutorial). I checked around, found some forum posts, verified the settings are correct, yet the trail car still doesn't mimic the throttle settings of the lead car. My setup is like this: Lead car - Engine Run, Generator Field, Fuel and Control Pump are on Radio is on Cutout Valve Freight MU-2A Valve is on Lead or Dead Trailing car - Engine Run, Generator Field, Fuel and Control Pump are off Radio is off Cutout Valve is Cutout MU-2A valve is trail 6 or 26 And finally, after verifying this is all set up, I turned on banking comm in the lead car. Correctly, the throttle in the trailing car should respond to the movements in the lead car if I understood correctly, yet it doesn't do anything, and in the uphill stage it's impossible to get up like this. What am I missing here?
Are you referring to the 2-loco MU at scenario start, or the 4-loco banking op later on? For connected locos banking com isn't necessary (it's an abstraction for communicating verbally with the invisible crew of the banking team lead unit)
4-loco banking op, but actually I was just stupid, it turns out I got worried it not working, and I started fiddling with the second loco, which stopped it. After restarting I was able to get it up the hill. However, if everything's correct in a 4-loco setup, the throttle changes only in the 2 lead cars? (one lead car in the front, and one lead car in the back) Just trying to verify with my limited knowledge so I don't panick in the future.
Exactly. What the game is trying to represent is two pairs of locomotives, each of which has a live human crew in the lead unit. There is no radio remote control on these locos!. Instead, "Banking Comms" means a voice radio with which the engineer in the frontmost loco tells the engineer in the lead banking unit what to do. Ergo the lead unit of the banking pair should be set up as if a human were driving it - because in reality one is.* Turning off the engine control, generator field and fuel pump switches in trailing units disables those units' control stands, so they won't do anything at all. Besides, the reverser handle should be out, which locks the throttle handle. OTOH, if the engines are all coupled directly to one another, as in the scenario Ice and Snow, then you put all the engines except the lead in trail setup, because they really are under (wired) remote control. (helpful hint: start setting up locos from the back forward, finishing up in the driving cab. And be sure to remember which one you're in! All CSX GPs and SDs have the loco number written on the control stand, so you can check it with the number plates in external camera) __ *caveat: this applies to throttle, dynamic brake and independent brake control. The automatic (train) brake is controlled from the lead cab for the whole consist
I believe that the trail loco in any rear DPU pair should register on the ammeter with changes in throttle. I know you have come across a number of sources on these threads - there was a while when we were all trying to work it out. Therefore, you likely have seen my personal favorite reference by breblimator: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1o7zeIn-Nshe7_bzqkd7hQg2QrV0G9xNvBevPoxTunA8/edit#gid=0 There are two things I recommend to anyone new to this TSW adventure.
