I'm trying to use TS Tools to make custom PreLoad consists, however when I go to test them out in quick drive, it doesn't load up and I get this message. I have no idea why this is. I've used TS Tools to make QD consists in the past and it's worked fine. I've cleared the cache, verified my files through steam, cleared the steam download cache, deleted the cache bin files, and none of it has made any difference. (Annoyingly it's uninstalled all my mods...yay) So I'm at a loss here. Please help.
Quite simply there is a problem with the custom Preload. You need to compare it with one that you know works line by line. These problems sometimes arise and it is always ( and I use that word delibrately ) due to either the file not having been made correctly by TSTools or by there being something arift with the stock you have referred to in the .bin file. SERZ it to make an xml and use an editor that allwos line by line comparisons. My money would be on the last few lines of the .xml being wrong. It honestly isn't your system or TRainsim itself as that won't generate this error.
I checked line for line and the only difference was the ID numbers and the rolling stock used. Everything else was as it should be. I decided to make a Preload with default rolling stock and I finally got some results. So making custom consists with default equipment is fine but then making it with modded equipment doesn't work...even though I've also done that in years past and it worked fine. So idk what would be wrong with the modded equipment.
You had one part of the game that you created that was not working - Verifying the Steam games is pointless as it did not come thru Steam and it does remove your mods. Try placing the modded equipment in a scenario and move them around. If the modded equipment does not work you would have an answer. If it does create a consist with a loco and one wagon/coach and see if that works
After running some more tests I finally figured out the issue, almost. When making some reskins I put the main BIN files into my own developer and add-on folder. I then moved my reskin bin file back into the original dev folder and now it works in quick drive. However I still don't know why this is even a thing to begin with. In the scenario editor I'm able to put down my modded bin files from my dev folder and they work just fine. But then quick drive is when they stop working. Idk if this has always been a thing or it just started when that big update came out last year. The main reason why I put my reskin bin files into my own folder was to keep everything tidied up and not clutter the list for scenario makers down the line. But looks like that's a no go from Dovetail's end. So I've exhausted everything and there's nothing else I can try. But there needs to be an update where a piece of rolling stock will work in quick drive regardless of the dev folder it's in. I mean you still have to own the add-on to make it work proper and I won't be including the GEO files as standard in reskins.
After some more thinking and looking around my files, I found out that the reason why my reskin bin files won't load in quick drive is because the quick drive mode doesn't have the ability to locate the GEO file associated with the BIN files. If the GEO file is located somewhere else, then quick drive can't find it. Even Armstrong Powerhouse have to do this. So Top Gear Top Tip, if you're making a reskin, leave the BIN files where they're suppose to be or quick drive has an aneurysm!
You loco/coach/wagon reskin & bin file should normally be in the same folder as base the loco/coach/wagon. The Quick Drive consist can be in Any PreLoad folder Kim Olesen has done a number of PreLoad Consists for his real drives and those consists are in folders un-releated to the trains that will be spawned
