I’d love to see the V200 in game. It has dual motors. It’s diesel hydraulic. And it’s beautiful, in a VW bus kinda way.

This was the west German equivalent to the GDR DR BR118 DR BR119 locos which DRA Dresden Chemnitz Rapid Transit used to see 40 years ago

Wow, that’s very similar. The timeline (V200 in the 1950s, the DR locos in the 60s and 70s) definitely leads me to believe that the GDR version is a pretty blatant copy, but imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.

I swear I've seen this loco on a documentary about firefighting on the railways.
But yeah, I think this is a pretty good candidate for a future DLC or Rolling stock on a route... but where would it fit the most? Maybe linke rheinstrecke...?

Though I very much prefer the more powerful looking V200.1 BR 221

I dunno, I really like the big engine room windows and the “Deutsche Bundesbahn” text on the sides of the original V200. It’s just gorgeous.

It's kind of crazy, but there were once two Germanys that did similar things. This in turn had the advantage that today there are so many variants of locomotives with the same performance range. By the way, an interesting comparison of the front section of the V200 with a VW Bulli!

Nowadays there are now only a few large manufacturers that offer platform concepts. For example, all Vectrons look almost the same, regardless of whether they are electric, diesel or dual-system locomotives. The same can be seen with the Traxx locomotives from Bombardier Alstom. Somehow a monotonous design is boring, but it has the advantage that almost all spare parts fit every type of locomotive.

Yeah, it seems that the external design of German electric locomotives (other than the EMUs) hasn’t changed since the 120. Pretty much all of the recent ones look very much like the 120. They used to make pretty wildly different designs.

Well, thinking back to the Einheitselloks BR 110, 140, 141, 150... they're not all that different looking either :D
But I agree, this bygone era, especially the early 70's, had a great variety to offer. Might be my own preference, I'll choose a 218 or V100 over a 245 hands down, or an E44 over a Vectron ;)

Personally I'd love to get a V200 into TSW. Either 220 or 221 would be fine, both look and sound great! Although we'd still be missing a nice fitting route to use them in. Schwarzwaldbahn, Allgäubahn, Hamburg-Lübeck in the '60s... just let me dream

True, when the 120 was built at the end of the 70s it was way ahead of its time and also a kind of bluprint for all its successors. Its three-phase current technology was also new territory and was installed a little later in the ICE1 power heads.

But the look of American locomotives has also become too similar. The two big manufacturers GE and EMD build pretty much similar locomotives in terms of design and performance class. As an inexperienced European, it is initially difficult to distinguish an SD70 from a GE AC4400. But if you've played TSW for a while, you know what's going on... ;)
