Don't any of the locos used in the german loco line up have any onboard power to drive without the constant overhead wire needs? If they did a deseil might not be needed right away,It would seem a real issuse if the power went down and left wire dependent, electic loco pulled trains stranded in dangerous areas.I mean these are large locos so they should have a bit of space for some sort of onboard power storage for at least limited use.
Unfortunately none of the German electric engines have a backup source of power. Having a battery large enough to power a train engine for a reasonable amount of time would require a lot of space. I mean it would need to hold about 4MW (4000 kW) to power the engine for an hour (depends on the engine), while a car battery can hold about 40 kW. Now you can probably guess how big it would it need to be.
These are rare cases. If the electricity is off, the emergency brake button is pressed. No DB locomotive has this storage because the DB relies on its security systems.
