I think this lovely loco doesn't really need introduction. Its of the E40 family, quite similar to the E10 (or BR110 as we know it). It was used to haul freight trains and was extremely widely used. It still is used to this day even, with a few private operators running it. Seen here: I think this locomotive really is, just like the BR218, a real multitool which could be used endlessly on pretty much all routes. It would finally give us a realistic freight loco for LFR, and if it came in a current and historic paint scheme it could basically be used on all other German routes as well. The sister variant, the 141 was used for local commuter trains. This loco too, could be used on quite a few routes. To be honest I don't know the real differences between this one and the 140 (iirc the 141 is approved for higher speeds up to 140kph), but both would fit on LFR and would be highly appreciated. Maybe this loco can be taken into consideration, or already is? (Looking at you, Simtrack Studios )
Yes, please. The 140 is desperately needed on LFR, which could also use a 141. Additionally, the 140 should be a relatively easy project in TSW - copy the physics of the 110, remove the electric brake and change the gearing. Then, it’s “just” the 3D model and cab that needs building. The 140 was the ubiquitous work horse back in the day and quite a few still run with private companies to this day.
Sign me up! As mentioned, the 140 has been a staple of the German railway system for decades and is sorely lacking on LFR for freight and even light commuter services. The model of the 110 could be used as a basis to save time and effort. And with the right paint scheme it could layer into so many routes as well! I'd say it's a lot of value gained for comaratively little work. The 141 would be more complex to be made, since it might look similar, but is technically quite different. Also it would need fitting sounds... it wasn't called "Knallfrosch" (firecracker) for no reason I'd appreciate having both!
140 423-5 in Koblenz last Saturday at the DB Museum's summer parade. (It was lovely even though the weather proved uncooperative, I was there myself ) Magnificent machines. Here, you can also hear the tap changer working, which I forgot to mention before. The correct tap changer sound is absolutely necessary and is another change required from the current TSW 110.
I'd really really love one of these in the game to haul freight trains. The 141 Knallfrosch would be cool sound-wise. Lets see what Simtrack brings...
