    Although there is no direct connection between the old D-Züge (Schnellzüge) and the Interregios, they wound up filling essentially the same niche (one more or less occupied today by IC2).
    What I am trying to find out is a) when did the D-Züge disappear, and b) when were the Interregios launched?

    And another one, just for the heck of it:

    How long did the transitional period last when IC coaches had Verkehrsrot window bands (with no violet understripe), before going to ICE white?

    Here’s the best I could find:
    The switch to IRs was completed in 1994. That’s when they largely disappeared as far as I know, but some lines remained classified as Schnellzüge. The Sylt-Shuttle is still classified as one to this day.

    25th of September, 1988, with major additions coming 91/92.

    According to this discussion, they started being painted in that scheme in 1996 and were repainted to ICE colours in 2001 with some stragglers possibly remaining until April/March of 2002. However, only 1/4 of the IC coaches ever had the traffic-red window band.

    The best timeline you might find in here (basically a fade-in / fade-out in the time span of the 1990s):

    https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schnellzug
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schnellzug

    The english version of this article is not an exact translation from the german one. But I think it has the data you wanted.
    For such a specific subject it´s probably the best idea to search with german keywords* and put the text into a translator.
    If you have trouble with it (german language can be a pita, especially the excentric color names), just drop me a note and I can help to untie the proverbial knot.

    * Schwanengesang der D-Züge
    * Das Ende der Schnellzüge bei der Deutschen -Bundesbahn (-Reichsbahn)
    * Schnellzug Ära in Deutschland

    With the same observation as above: There doesn´t seem to be an equivalent english article, but drop me a note if help is needed.

    Hm! Apparently the Nachtzug still uses that livery- something to remember if creating a BR 115 consist.

    Wondering if those who are knowledgeable would give me comments or corrections on this chart, which is intended as a sort of at-a-glance reference for DB passenger services and liveries, 1949-present.

    (I haven't included locomotive liveries. At least not yet)
