Looks like it's cement tankers https://cumbriacrack.com/2022/10/20/freight-train-derails-in-carlisle/
I just see this too. Runaway train! https://www.gov.uk/government/news/runaway-engineering-train-at-london-liverpool-street-station
I work in Carlisle and rest assured it's chaos! It's on the Newcastle line just after Petteril junction where the Settle Carlisle comes off (about 100yds behind where the loco is). Whilst it doesn't affect the WCML they were stacking trains outside the station and castle as I came past. I would have gone that way round and got some pics if it wasn't raining so hard!
Carlisle's renowned for freight trains wrecking river bridges. This happened just after I moved up here!
Oof, right where the line from Newcastle joins it. Glad I'm not catching one of the trains going that way any time soon. I've used them a bunch in the past. I suppose the best option for trains coming from Newcastle when it happened would have been to drop folks off at Wetheral. Used to be my local station decades ago.
So, the initial investigation into the derailment has come across some false wheel flanges on a set of wagons that were involved. Unfortunately the Hexham and Settle lines will be closed until at least the end of next Wednesday whilst recovery and infrastructure repairs take place.
Just seen this about the one year anniversary of the Salisbury Rail Crash involving 159102 + 158763. https://www-bbc-co-uk.cdn.ampprojec...errer=https://www.google.com&_tf=From %1$s
Christ, just seen this on youtube. Heard about it before but never realised it was so bad. Hopefully everyone involved is ok.
