At the time of the re-unification of the two Germanys the DR had a fleet of locos of classes 211 and 242 (DR numbering) which became DBAG BR109 and BR142 respectively. Except for gearing and minor details they were identical. Many went into the works as one class and depending on the parts available came out as the other with the same serial number! They resembled the BR251 (DBAG BR171) as used on the Rubelandbahn but the 171 were a stretched body shell so a basic model exists. Perhaps one of our German maestros could produce a BR211/242 (BR109/142)? They were in service with DB until 1997 (109) and 1998 (142) and even then had life some being sold for use in Switzerland and then some were re-sold to German private operators and used on Berlin to Sassnitz trains. The 109/211 were primarily passenger, the 142/242 were primarily freight but like their DB counterparts, the BR140, found use as push pull engines and replacement driving trailers. The last 4 of BR109 in DBAG service worked out of Lutherstadt Wittenberg on trains to Leipzig and the 142s were in use in that area up to 1998 so suitable routes already exist.
Good idea. The only dev that I can imagine to do this would be Virtual Railroads. If there's enough technical blueprints around, why not? They made the DR 243 (later DB BR 143/112/114) and the 252 (later DB BR 156) already and a lot of DR coaches.
I didn’t know about the 252/156. The last time I saw them in DBAG markings they were in store at Dresden Freidrichstadt RBF and then I saw 156 003 in Berlin in MEG markings. I’ll look into their site as it is ideal for Dresden Reisa.
The blueprints should be available as both Piko and Brawa have produced HO models of both since the year dot. I purchased a Brawa model of the only BR242 to be painted in Orient red with the white triangle beneath the cab front windows because I saw it hauling a fast freight towards Leipzig passing Leipzig Wahren in 96. Which reminds me that kleinloks are another shortfall in the game (there were 4 x exDR Koef IIs (100 xxx-x) in store at Wahren). We have the DB red Koef II and rail-Sim.de has a Koef III (not a very good one) but otherwise......zilch. The exDR 102, DBAG BR312s were a feature of the yard at Mukran so there is a route ready made for all of the above plus Dresden. Edit/update: taking Torfmeister’s suggestion I have emailed vR and made the suggestions re above. I have had an auto response so they have received, I will post should I hear anything.
I have a reply from VirtualRailroads as follows: Hallo John, thank you for your mail. Yes former DR locomotives are missing a lot and are still on my to do list. Mayor problem are not blueprints, but sounds. Here in Germany there are some machines in museum which are still operational. I have a plan to record sounds and do some photo sessions for those older DR locos, but that will last some time. regards, Ulf Freudenreich So there's hope.
171 does exist in-game for Rubelandbahn Green version DR BR251. For DB BR171 Green paint the DR BR251 Rubelandbahn you must pay €29.99 with VAT without VAT it's €25.17
Thank you, I was aware and that is why I referred to it. It is a good model and I have both green and red versions but I failed to actually confirm it’s existence and I should have.
I wish an update for the BR155/250 from the Cologne-Koblenz pack: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DR_Class_250 It’s about the old version of the rooftop collecter double bracket unit, you see at the Wikipedia picture in front. The actually DTG livery bet the modernised version collecter bracket unit one only.
I think the brilliant BR 155 was a second party contractor development modelled by Reppo (he has a very distinctive realistic style and perfect texturing and lighting) and scripted by Maik Goltz by the looks and feel of it (the manual gives no credit though). Still one of the finest locos in TSC, but an update can be pretty much ruled out.
