Whenever someone comes on here and makes a thread in their language, the replies are full of arrogant people trying to force the rules onto people who just want to be part of the community. It’s no good telling someone, in English, to speak English. Don’t you think that if they could speak good English, they would given that’s the rules? Instead, whatever they say gets dismissed because some people are allergic to anything they don’t understand and refuse to accept that not everyone speaks the same language to the same standard. To prevent these people from continuing their snobbery, why not just have subforums for different languages? Most likely German, French, and possibly Spanish. That way, people will be able to express their opinions and suggestions without worrying about being dismissed and told they don’t belong.
The forum moderators are best at english only and having a multilingual setup makes it very difficult to moderate properly, and not everyone understands each other well either due to language barriers. The forums and many other general online locations are limited to english only so everyone that participates can understand well and communicate well.
It would need DTG to have admin and moderators who are fluent in the particular language to be effective. If they felt they could service a multi or bilingual forum, then don't you think they would have by now? And where does it stop - I can kind of see the sense in maybe a German language sub, but should we then also have a Welsh or Gaelic forum for those in the British Isles who prefer to speak in their local tongue. What about Icelandic, Japanese or Urdu/Farsi? The simple fact is, English is the internationally accepted common language for trade and activities such as air traffic control. DTG products are developed by a British company largely employing native English speakers. Would also dilute the information available by having everything not posted in the "common tongue". It is far easier for one person to post in English with or without using Google Translate, than everyone else who might want to read the thread.
I'd rather not have the community be split further in different languages. Although I admit I'm annoyed by the amount of backseat moderation going on on these forums. Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but IMO if you spot someone breaking the rules, just report the post to the moderators and let them do their job.
Fair point, but on a Friday evening that might be 60 hours away. And while there are some who might not genuinely be aware of the English rule (which as we have explored does not actually appear to be clearly stated in any of the forum FAQ, unless it’s when you sign up), I’m sure some is done deliberately to troll by individuals who have previously had the situation pointed out politely to them.
