I hate the new diorama, as does a lot of other people, and I just wanted to propose my ideal diorama. In TSW2, although it may have been removed recently, there was a screensaver/demo mode where the UI would disappear. I found its addition quite strange, since there wasn't anything to see. My ideal diorama would be a 'live' train station. The camera would be one a footbridge over this huge, bright station. There would be versions of it for every country in the game, which could be selected by the player, and for each version trains from that country could be seen driving around. In the British one, you could see an Electrostar picking up passengers on the left, and on the right a Class 66-hauled freight train is trundling through. In the middle, a consist of coaches is being pulled in by a Class 08, which will later be pulled out by a locomotive on a long journey. These trains would have substitution enabled, so there would be lots of variety. It would also be nice to be able to select the era of the stock, so a Class 40 won't appear next to a 387 (unless it's a railtour). It would also be nice if you could pick from several viewpoints, or go into a free-cam mode to pick a new location. It would also be nice to walk around and pick a new location that way. I could also see Mastery integration - by reaching targets, you could unlock things for your station. For example, driving 200 miles would unlock a night freight train (the diorama, like the current one, would be synchronised to your current time). To keep the diorama actually useful as well (unlike the current one), going into timetable mode, where you need to see the selected train and conditions, the camera would move to a location outside of the station - perhaps a depot - where you could see the train and weather. But like all dreams this will never happen.
