On Steam anyway for us PC masterrace. The base game can be had for £1.79, or I bought the GOTY edition which I think includes a lot of the DLC for £5.24. Had already got a bit bored with FH4 so figured as rallying, even on fictional courses, is more up my street. Be aware though the GOTY edition clais over 100 Gb of HD space. Along with a few other bits should keep me busy until the TSW Shap route drops,
Great value, though weirdly enough I find the original Dirt Rally more realistic graphically and Richard Burns Rally with the Hungarian plugin arguably better regarding physics. DR2 is still great fun, however.
I’ve already got Dirt Rally 2. It’s very good value at that price. I noticed WRC 24 was also reduced, so giving that a try. Lots of mixed reviews for that, but playing through the tutorial is fun. I’m hopeless at Rally games anyway - I’ll probably spend more time in a tree than on the track. It’ll be good for a few hours of fun though.
I nearly always finish last, even on easy. One of the reasons why I liked that 1999 Mobil Rally Championship. You could place dead last and still advance through the levels, unless you ran out of allotted repair time and the car was unroadworthy. Sadly my most recent attempts to get it working again ended in failure. The game loaded but with a quarter view stretched out on the screen and not responding to my game pad despite being recognised. So looking forward to seeing what Dirt 2 has to offer.
I used to be a volunteer marshal at real life Rallies. The skills of some of the drivers always amazed me. Especially when I can’t always get round the first few corners without hitting something in a game.
Guess that’s where it comes down to the difference between the real environment where all your senses are feeding back, particularly motion and inertia and trying to emulate on a flat 2D screen. Same with flight sims, where I struggle to line up with the runway if there’s no ILS.
The Welsh stage is one of my favs in DR1, worth picking up for DR2 imo. Shame it wasn't included by default really.
That’s a nice deal for you PC players. I was lucky to have it for free as it was part of the free game of the month on PlayStation with the PS+ subscription of course. Dirt Rally 2.0 is a nice game, it aged well in my opinion.
Re WRC 24, price of around £11 makes it very tempting. Just wondering what the catch is when a newish game and one by EA to boot, is on sale so cheap?
Slight bump, Lunar Sale on Steam has put the GOTY version down to £6.99. Not as cheap as last time when I think it was £5.79 but might grab it again for keeps. Sure I saw a rumour that the licensing might run out soon in which case it will get pulled for new customers.
Just caved in and bought this, first impressions - excellent, well worth it in the sale. Feels a bit more in depth than the Dirt Rallies, lots of modes, cars, tracks etc. Physics feel good, certainly equivalent or better than DR1 and 2, even approaching RBR levels I would say. Runs smooth (60fps) on an old system like mine (i7, nvid 1080 card).
