Sometimes when playing a route I am not familiar with or one I have not played in awhile and forgotten I get burned by instances where there is a speed limit change followed immediately by another. The first speed limit change displayed kind of hides the second one, which can be trouble if it is a further signifigant reduction. For example I was playing a Spirit of Steam service and coming into Edge Hill at the end of it the HUD warned me of a 40mph zone coming up and gave me this warning a couple of miles in advance. So I slowed down in plenty of time for the change to 40mph only to find when I reached that spot there was a change to 20mph only a couple hundred yards beyond that. Needless to say I had to slam on the brakes and still sped for a bit. I think it would be cool if the HUD displayed multiple Next Speed Limit indications at the same time, top to bottom in order of proximity. In the example above I would be able to see there is a 20mph limit immediately after the 40mph limit and take appropriate action. This would give you a clearer heads up of whats coming. DW
I think I might have suggested this previously so glad to see the issue raised again. I have been caught out numerous times by this especially on routes I don't drive often or not familiar with. For example last night on Peninsula Corridor I had a 20 MPH warning approaching San Francisco to put a train in the yard, I hit the 20 and up popped a 5 MPH about 30 yards away. No time to slow down and in this case no lineside signage either. There's a couple of locations on NTP where you get this and the newly extended SEHS gets you at Ashford where you approach on to a 40 MPH restriction but immediately after get 25 into the back platform, zero warning.
It's just a good job TSW doesn't penalise you in the same way TSC Career mode does for speeding! Though in certain situations it may cause a derailment.
Did that game do it? I only know TSW2/3. Another area that pops into mind is Cresson on Horseshoe Curve. You often switch tracks there and it seems like the switch is always right behind a speed limit sign. DW
I think I've also suggested it before for the same reason. Seeing the next two upcoming signals would be nice as well, also for the same reason.
