Hi Everyone Before any decisions are made I thought it sensible to get opinions of those of you out there that currently play on Next Gen Consoles. I currently play on an 8th Gen Xbox One and as buying a gaming PC is not currently an option for me I was toying with the idea of upgrading to an Xbox Series X. My thought process behind this is that in theory I 'should' get a better gaming experience and the simulation should overall run smoother on a much more powerful console. I can also take advantage of the current sales whilst they are on! I currently suffers with crashes most time I end up playing! However I am hesitant to do this as I can see this forum is currently 'littered' with posts about how a large number of people are still experiencing crashes on Xbox Series X for no apparent reason. Another bug bear for me is the current texture problem on 8th Gen Consoles. Z fighting I think its called. Is this better or non existent on 9th Gen Consoles. I would like to here you're opinions on whether its really worth it currently to upgrade given the problems other users are experiencing as its a lot of money to pay if the end result is going to be just as frustrating? Thanks
Z-fighting affects all Xbox consoles, though I think 8th gen (Xbox one) is suffering from a different texture issue also basically to upgrade would improve things but not everything as indicated by Z-fighting, though guaranteed a better experience than 8th Gen. edit: if you already have a 4K TV that’s an even better upgrade with the series x
Also, any other games you have, or will have in the future, will also benefit from the upgrade. Even some older games still benefit with features such as fps boost. With TSW, quick resume also helps avoid the potential problems of save game.
The game runs great on Series X from a performance point of view. I don't have too many crashes or anything. I'd say upgrading from a One X is a no brainer. I've played TSW3/4 on all the "next gen" (X, S and PS5) and overall the X is probably the best way to do it. I looked up z fighting and I think what you're talking about there is how some textures flicker/overlap in the cab? I see that a bit on the Xbox. I don't know if it is better or worse than 8th gen but some trains seem to be better than others. Oddly enough the problem doesn't seem to effect PS5 at all.
The sim runs relatively smooth and stable on Series X. While I would recommend for anyone to just wait a bit more and save up for a PC instead, I'd say yeah, the upgrade to Series X is worth it.
Vectron and NJ Transit Cab car are the worst I’ve found for it, but it affects roughly about 80-90% trains I have. I believe it to be the same for Both gens as it seems to affect the same specific things each and every time rather than randomised
Just want to add that I've put a lot of hours into TSW (1, 2, 3, and now 4) on Series X, I have a decent amount of DLC, and I don't actually recall ever experiencing a crash. *touches wood*
Only ever had one TSW crash on the Series X and that was back on TSW3. I‘ve had way more crashes (lost count) on the new Forza game. Though I haven’t played much TSW4 yet, so I don’t know what issues it has on XBox. If you can cope with the Audio Issues and the Z fighting which both affect all XBox consoles, then go for it. It’s a lot better performance and the additional layers that are enabled on next gen really enhance the game.
Series X great console TSW 4 plays ok but normal stuttering here and there and sound glitchy in places but that's the norm for this simulator.
I wouldn't let my decision to get an XSX depend on TSW4. The upgrade is nice, but not too much to write home about, as you still get frame dips down to the low thirties. But! The loading times are much, much improved. It's a great console, with automatic upgrades for many great games and a couple of awesome exclusives.
DTG Matt picked this issue up in a stream and it’s been mentioned as receiving attention since then, I’m kinda holding hope this issue will be a thing of the past soon, hopefully may get it sorted with the winter core update. (I really want to try out the 193, owned it for 2 months now, but nope it’s completely a no go with the issue) but yea, they should be no difference with it between 8th and 9th Gen regardless.
Absolutely get one if you are still on an 8th gen console, it's especially worth it right now when they just knocked over a hundred quid off the price. And if you have a library of disc based XBox One games (Or earlier) this might be your last chance to grab the version with a physical drive to play them all before the hardware revision next year. I strongly recommend pairing it with a 120Hz+ display that can handle VRR as well. A major improvement to all console gaming experiences. Some good discounts on those right now (I just grabbed a fourth 170hz 1440p monitor for my desk myself)
