I'm a newbie so forgive all these questions but in Flight Sim we get aircraft and airports etc that players have made that can be downloaded. So my question is do they do the same for this sim, like engines or routes etc?

Only if you're on pc and know how to use the editor.

Ty Ren, I am on a PC but I meant like in FlightSim players have made other aircraft and airports etc and they are available on some websites to download. Perhaps it isn't possible with this sim, I was just asking that's all.

With the release of Train Sim World 4 in September, the TSW franchise became the feature of the PC Editor (even if it's in Beta) based upon Unreal Engine 4.26, with which you can create routes (with stations) and locos (which is I think you ask for) plus also custom timetables and scenarios.

You also need further knowledge with software like Blender or Sketchup to actually model buildings (stations) or locos and import them into the Editor.

Please learn more about this feature in the official PC Editor FAQ here:
    https://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com...01089320-train-sim-world-4-pc-editor-beta-faq

We also have a dedicated forum for it:
    https://forums.dovetailgames.com/forums/pc-editor-discussion/

How we can share our creations is yet a problem, still the Editor does not allow to cook content, yet.

Unlike MSTS, Trainz or even TSC the editors that DTG provided last year for TSW are incomplete and largely undocumented. A few people have made a bit of headway but despite my extensive experience building routes in other sims I threw in the towel after a couple of weeks shaking my head in consternation. Not really designed for ease of use or hobby level dabbling.

Yes I did have a quick search, I asked on the off chance I may have missed a site and someone could have pointed me there.
It's not a big deal, I am slowly building up the sim with some routes and a few addons I bought, I'm still learning so got plenty to go at.

Yes, that's true unfortunately. They said they would give us some shorter tutorials in the February Roadmap after my feedback, but it didn't come in the past 4 weeks and it's very unlikely to come yet. However, I found the documentation we have available including the masterclasses to have exceeded a minimum threshold of information where I felt engaging with it could be nice nonetheless, so I started my project.

It's very difficoult at the start and when you setup your route including the horrific Lidar process. However, after that a lot of track and scenery creation is easier to understand and quite repetitive, while maybe not actually being so easy to practice (for example the constant crashes at placing tracks during the last months - thanks god they fixed at least that!). And you waste hours on some minor details. You really need patience for these tasks...

Yes, that's true. It's Unreal Engine. A professional game developement tool. The blueprint based architecture is weird and can be completed to learn. However, I'm glad that the Editor does involve way more coding in C++ or C# (at least not from our part - DTG have to do so as well).

The common used site where people already exposed some mods and timetable projects is trainsimcommunity.com.

However with regard to building a route and/or a loco, you'll probably either have to wait until DTG releases the cooking functionality for the Editor officially or get in contact with them to maybe even sell your addon (It's all described in the PC Editor FAQs I linked to before in case your interested).

I spent a lot of years on FlightSim and got used to tweaking files and swapping things about, I even got doing textures for aircraft, a few real world but a lot were fictional as that is what I liked to do, I even made some water airports for seaplanes as well as altering some ready made ones, like adding or deleting parking spots etc.
I never got in to making the models but a lot of simmers did and do and most of them are very good, some as good and in some cases better than a payware model.
So after doing that I wondered if the TrainSim was similar where players could tinker and add some of their contributions.

As I said above, sharing routes or locos is not possible yet due the missing cooking feature in the Editor. We all wait for that it gets added, but Dovetail does not seem to either have the capacities or interest to getting this into the Editor and letting people share their creations for free on any third party site (at least in the nearby future).

Matt P. (executive Producer of TSW) once said that the devs thought about the idea that creations like these maybe could be implemented into the "Creators Club" - which in case you don't know is a community-based in-game platform where players share their custom liveries and scenerios. However, this is just an idea and if you ask me unlikely to come in the near future as well.

Apart of all the above, I really can't help you out further as this is everything to say about the PC Editor. Either you're interested in creating a route or loco in this way or not. And I think for most of us, the concern how to release the final work (premise it gets ever finished!) is rather trivial at the moment.

Anyway (as I also already mentioned before), you got the option to get in touch with Dovetail Games to release your final work commercially with them.

But there really is nothing more to say here. Get TSW4 and check if working with the PC Editor (aka Unreal Engine 4) suits you or not. This is by far the biggest problem the majority of people have with it since it's very complex and creating creations with it is not a weekend only thing or even a thing you could create in a couple of hours (it takes countless hours to even learn the basics if you're not familar with UE yet and the final work could take years to be ready to release), not the concern how to release the final work.

However, if the hurdles still seem to be doable for you, after all I would be very happy to have you with us in the PC Editor community.
