In the latest stream Matt outlined fairly clearly the challenges doing a route outside the current core territories of UK, Germany and North America would bring. As it seems unlikely DTG will extend their route building scope, at least without an associate third party, and given we are still seeing fresh postings suggesting routes in many different countries I would suggest this section of the board has a sticky advising posters of the circumstances and to bear that in mind when posting ideas. For example I see a couple of updated posts today about Scandinavian routes but without dashing the hopes of those putting forward the ideas, realistically they are not going to get even a look in.

I understand what you mean. It feels pretty pointless to keep suggesting these awesome routes that are out of DTGs limited scope. Hearing TrainSim-Matt talk about all the reasons why they can't do a new country (yet still enthousiastically saying "we'd love to do [insert country here]"), is a huge dissapointment and really demotivating.

However, if we were to discourage people from suggesting new countries, we'd never truly show the amount of support and demand there is for these countries. We'd be shooting ourselves in the foot. Chances of a new country are already tiny as they are, discouraging people from posting suggestions and sharing their enthousiasm would reduce our chances even further.

I'd like to keep a tiny bit of hope that someday, someone awesome, will actually develop a new country. Even though I realize it may all be false hope and we'll be stuck in and endless loop of the same old 3 countries until the end of the universe.

    I feel sad now. :(

I see where you are coming from Purno, obviously there are two sides to the coin. It’s just such a shame when people put forward ideas, often with a detailed and articulate presentation, to realise their hopes are dashed before they even start.

Remember it may well be that other developers not just us will be inspired by those posts - so i'd say keep it all flowing.

I appreciate my notes on the situation with regard to developing other countries may be demotivating and not what you want to hear, but at the very least I want to be up front and clear about the situation so at least we're all on the same page, even if we don't like that page.

Fair enough Matt. I’ll keep touting for Yugoslavia narrow gauge, then!! :)
