Which implies all the new content is routes for the Dovetail Direct (Including the JT route.)

 

Any bets on what the 'brand-new exciting project' will be?

 

9 routes and 2 locos in the next 6/7 months then, interesting...

I'd imagine any other 3rd parties would be marked as such (saying as JT's is).

That would certainly make up for the low level of route releases in TSW4, especially on the UK/US side...

 

I wonder... about the "Koln-Aachen timetable update"...
I mean, if you already have purchased the "New Journeys - S-Bahn Köln BR 423 Add-On", the mentioned update, will be about extra services, apart from that ones, or be included too?

You could have posted it earlier already, since you wrote it down in advance - why drag the cat until August 20th....don't understand\

 

My expectation is a full timetable at Koeln, plus DMU services at Aachen, Dueren and Horrem, and more trains heading north-west from Aachen. A lot of rolling stock has come out since that release, much of which would fit, either exactly or closely enough.

Maybe some more freight too, including short runs and shunting, around Stolberg for example. The only thing he couldn't add really is the Thalys services, unless he added TGV Duplexes, which I wouldn't disapprove of, but they'd probably have to be AI only.

 

So all the stuff on that roadmap will be announced?

 

Looking forward to it. I think ill be needing to get a new route again soon, so hopefully they reveal one I like.

EDIT : even if it does mean getting TSW5

Yes I have the same expectation!.
About Thalys should be great.
But please notice they have no license for it. Or DTG could get it.
Frankly speaking I do not think they do it, as Thalys are only high speed trains, on high speed lines.
Despite they made the run to Aachen in order to go to Brussels.
But I believe it will not worth it to get a license just for that.

Apart from that, I believe the route will deserves an upgrade, to the latest features we have now.
As the weather, 3d clouds, and other effects and details.
This route is a "classic" in the game.

Yeah, to clarify, they won't be getting the Thalys for this free upgrade, but they do have the option to sub in the technically similar Duplexes. Or just sub in more ICEs, then they would be driveable.

Thalys and Eurostar have merged a few years ago and the old Thalys trainsets have been rebranded to Eurostar as of October 1st 2023. So if they bring a TGV set to SKA, they should get a Eurostar license.

 

Okay. That's great. I have heard elsewhere the route was ready apparently to be announced but we're just waiting for approval from DTG so just this must be the thing they were waiting for

 

whatever it is (an entirely new franchise?), I hope it doesn't mean that development on TSW and its addons is getting slowed down by this!

 

It's a shame the stream couldn't be brought forward given a post in another thread has picked up on the release date from the Epic database.

Six routes, well assuming neither is the Bermuda Railway or Lochaber Narrow Gauge, we know but can't say what the UK route is, if not the extent. Likewise for America it seems likely the Metrolink out to San Bernadino will be the chosen route. Europe hard to say but given the other leak we never saw it seems a route or extended version of same on which a certain low cost operator runs is likely.

There does seem a good chance that at least one of the routes is an existing one which has been given a rework and extension. Oakville for instance. We know Matt suddenly stopped work on his spare time enhancement project purportedly because a modder beat him to it, but there have been calls for extension into Toronto Union and out to Niagara so it would be great if that was forthcoming along with a GO and VIA Rail licence. Extending TVL to Bishop Auckland, Sunderland, Boulby or even Whitby has been oft discussed and taking this route for a new lease of life and more mileage would go someway to appeasing the one handle critics.

Some further thoughts, six new routes does bring the possibility we are moving into a new territory with one or two of them. Two UK, two German and two American would be a bit restricted so is there a possibility the Tadami Line, for example, has been adopted for TSW5. It would be nice if secretly behind the scenes DTG have resumed working on and improving steam traction so at least one of the routes is a historical project.

There is the concern, already voiced, that quantity is going to come at the expense of quality particularly as we know Rivet are involved to an unknown depth as a sub contractor.

Certainly going to be interesting and watch the speculation mount over the next two weeks.

I would like to have a Swiss electric route.
There is already one, but according to the comments it was not good enough.
Even it is a very short one.

They have mostly Stadler EMU equipment.
I would like to drive them too.

Can I please request that when you talk about the German or Austrian route, we don't get the usual "heh, I'll probably butcher the pronunciation". Look the pronunciation up - write it phonetically if you have to. It's not hard, the information is out there, and the pronunciation rules are fairly consistent and easy to understand once you get familiar.

 

Why not? Other games also get leaked before release and you have to wait until a specific date until the actual reveal lol

There was the possibility of multiplayer mooted (groan) but I read Alex’s comment as something completely separate from their current game portfolio.

As an aside and without quoting further, will be interesting to see what they’re proposing to do with CTS. Given the low player numbers and poor feedback, one could be forgiven for thinking the bin or maybe they are going to take the advice and offer it at a more realistic EA price like £10.

 

I’m going to start the rumour here that the brand new exciting project will be another board game. DTG have a board games department and they won’t have been sat around twiddling their thumbs all day so they must have been working on something. It may be best to watch the live stream on catch-up rather than live so you can skip that bit if necessary

Ticket to Ride is a very good game, I would definitely be on board for a new railway themed board game.

Maybe Snakes and Ladders with Ludo on the other side of the board. Latter surprisingly cutthroat with four players.
Or the old Mousetrap perhaps.

 

So, given the roadmap slide header is TSW4 and lots of new routes and locos are going to be announced I presume we're not going to be getting a TSW5?

It's unclear. There's evidence pointing both ways. There's entries in the Epic Games Database for a new something (but I don't know if these have to be for a new game or if it's just a bundle), there's a bunch of Steam TSW4 depots for yet-to-be released depots which there presumably wouldn't be if the DLCs were intended for TSW5 only, TSW4 has been removed from Game Pass, which happened with TSW3 before TSW4's release (but that doesn't rule out a Rush Hour-style release), a Rivet employee had in their portfolio an image of an asset from the leaked yet-to-be-announced route that was labelled as being from TSW4...

 

Nothing TSW related is my bet!

 

DTG Alex what is the reasoning behind having the stream start at 14:00 UTC / 15:00 BST on Tuesday 20th August 2024? A lot of us will be at work….what is wrong with the usual 19:00 timings?

First of all, i know they said "a complete new project", but this doesnt say anything about if its a new Tsw or not. I think it would be pretty dumb to say "we work on a new project regarding Tsw" for a developer like Dtg which keeps most stuff as a secret.
If i have to choose between a complete new game (like the switch from TS to TSW) and a new Tsw (maybe Tsw 5), i would choose Tsw.
First, i like its gameplay and mechanics and the Graphic is more than enough for me to enjoy this game too.
Second, a new engine (as an example UE5) is something i hope does not get involved for a long time period.
Because, it would be way more work to develop content, existing dlcs wouldnt be playable anymore, it would most likely take another 7 years (or longer) to get the
variation of dlcs we have right now.

Tsw isnt perfect (the reasons are obvious), but for me it is more than good enough to not get replaced.
So i hope if there is a new game its a new Tsw and not a complete new game.

 

I think they will make tsw the new tsc (the update scheme at least)
