Ever since 2022 August 22, when Alex posted the below linked announcement stating that the Dovetail Store would be down for an extended maintenance, I don't believe it's ever come back online. Are there still plans to bring it back online? If it's truly dead in the water, the Dovetail Live web team really should remove the link to the Store off the menu bar on the website, or at least have it linked to Dovetail's Steam page, etc. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/dovetail-store-down-for-extended-maintenance.57631/
I just actually wanted to ask the same - is there a chance we could have some statement on this from DTG?
Well, I see now that the store isn't even linked from Dovetail Live any longer, so I guess the hope that the store would return is dead and buried...
The old websites don’t work now either https://store.dovetailgames.com https://store.dovetailgames.com/uk/sale
What do you gain by having the DTG Store? Everything sold on there was/is available thru Steam. And it is easier thru Steam as you don't get a code from DTG which you then redeem in the Steam Client.
For me it was cheaper. I could pay in UK Pounds - Steam inflated the exchange rate significantly for some countries so I end up paying 25 - 30 percent more than a straight currency conversion. On the DTG store I only have to worry about my credit cards exchange rate, which is a lot better. Granted I’m probably in the minority, but it used to save me a lot.
The DTG Website Store had small weekly sales that weren’t on Steam. You could get some nice DLC from those sales with good deals and cheap prices and I miss it quite a bit as I used to purchase from it a lot.
What Blazin said... the mix-up of sales on DTG Store was very welcome. Occasionally some good discounts, plus a good way to showcase DLC I may have passed up on Steam, since a lot of the time TSC Steam sales are almost the entire catalog, so things get lost in the noise. Lastly, DTG Store didn't charge for local state sales tax, so a minor discount at point of sale.
The good thing about the DTG store, they did some good weekly deals especially when there was no Steam sale operating and some products had better sale price than Steam.
