Something I don´t really understand about the DLC Dresden - Riesa, which is a TSW 2 Addon:

Now I can read in the last roadmap:
    upload_2023-8-25_11-2-12.png

So for "technical reasons" (really?), the TSW2 addons can not be updated (was promised with TSW3) . And nope sorry DTG, I don´t accept your apologies because I can´t accept product with bugs without updates. But this is not the topic here.

    and then I read:

So: Upgrades of TSW 2 are not possible because of technical reasons but it is nevertheless possible?

Or I didnt´t understand antything or we speak about two different things (updates and upgrades?)

I believe they are saying - upgrades to TSW2 cannot be made for technical reasons (as in the TSW2 game itself, bear in mind the core code for the game will have evolved through the life of TSW3 those old fixes may break things that are currently working).

The upgraded route is different to upgrading the TSW2 experience, the route has been updated and worked on to work with the TSW4 core - this would probably not work with the TSW2 core program.

    It's a technical reason called £39.99/€44.99/$49.99 :D

I haven't really paid too much attention to this issue (TSW2 updates) but from my understanding the TSW2 "updates" were bug fixes. These are not related to the upgrade of Dresden - Riesa for TSW4 (which is focused on bringing TSW3 or TSW4 features like TOD4 lighting and volumetric clouds to the route, as can be seen in the picture you linked).

All this to say: I don't really think there is a contradiction here. DTG has (as far as I know) updated each (?) pre-TSW3 route that has been included for a DLC in TSW3 (and now TSW4). Like Boston-Providence with the Acela, Sherman Hill with the SD70Ace livery pack etc.

The thing that you might be missing here is that Dresden was upgraded instead of updated. The preservation content was never supposed to get the TSW4 feature set. It would remain in this kind of TSW2 feature set so even no dynamic weather or that stuff.

it's like having 2 cars, one went to the car wash and the other to the tuning shop. Dresden went to the tuning shop

ok now explain me why all the other maps of TSW3 can not go to the tuning shop?
For these "technical reasons"? :D c'mon for the this "technical reasons" are just wind.
They just don't want to make the upgrade, thats all. But they can tell us this clearly

Because it takes time and costs money? :D You can think DTG are cynical, I won't argue with you for/against that, but anytime they go back and upgrade old content that is a cost in terms of developers and time. If they are selling a new DLC that uses that old content it is easier to justify that cost compared to if it's just "in the back catalogue".

I'm sure with time, more and more of the back catalogue will get updates, just by virtue of a future DLC using that route as a "home route", at least the routes that are popular.

The new lighting for example that came with tsw3 requires changing every single asset and lighting source/value. Now imagine doing that for 80 dlc. Now tsw4 has new features that need to be implemented route by route, loco by loco. Although it's a core change, each dlc is treated as their own. The new features only apply to new content. As the back catalog grows, so does the time and resources to update all of them one by one
