Wonder what the appetite is to be able to edit the appearance of the driver? Nothing too fancy but being able to change hair colour, add facial hair etc. might be a nice little improvement. While I’m on drivers, would also be great if they remained in the seat when you’re in the cab, ie when you look down, you’d see them sat in the chair rather than an empty seat. Find it quite annoying. Definitely not a priority in the grand scheme of things but find these little touches enhance the experience.
The problem here is managing the location of the camera against the head of the avatar There are likely to be instances where the head of the driver would move around the point inhabited by the camera which would mean you'd see the inside of the driver's head instead of the clear view ahead.
Most games get around this by not rendering the head at all unless you toggle to a third person view. Generally the body is rendered from the shoulders down, and usually with some very wonky forced perspective (Check out some youtube videos of people modding a third person camera into firewatch to see what player models designed for first person gameplaycan look like) the issue I foresee with this particular idea (while I do support avatar customisation as otherwise suggested, so OP gets a like for that), is the issue of what the character's hands are doing. In something like Elite it's fine, your hands are always going to be resting on the throttle and flight stick (In that case a very accurate recreation of the Saitek X52, which I have played Elite on in VR and it's great feeling the switches, hat, etc. where you see them ingame) - in TSW3 you'd need to animate them for the various possible configurations of control layouts, otherwise you end up having your immersion broken by always seeing the hands sitting constantly in your lap.
yup, and in what the OP want DTG woudl need to animate the hands etc to be working the controls as players command... seems a lot of dev time and processor work for minimal return to me...
I’d like to play Mr Potato Head with my character, who has an annoying little ponytail that I just want to snip off. I’d give him a small beard instead. Much more choice is needed. I don’t think showing the player’s body in first person would be a good idea but I would like to move the position of the virtual head I inhabit as it is invariably in a slightly odd position. I can move the position of any view except the one I would be able to move in real life, but that is a separate topic talked about elsewhere, so I’ll not say more here.
Agreed. The first person camera is just a static camera detached from any body so the ability to raise or lower it to represent adjusting the seat should not be hard to stick in the menu. But yeah, I'd love to be able to tweak my hair to more accurately reflect my colour and style.
I'd rather see some interactive features tbh, such as instead of the driver just vanishing perhaps them getting out of the cab
