Yesterday I’ve tried night timetable mission with ICE3M. Headlights were switched on (I checked it on outside camera), but from the cabin it seems like all lights are off. You are driving in absolutely darkness. Is anybody has the same issue?

Heh. “You can’t stop from 300kmh to zero on the distance you see. So, the light doesn’t matter” )

The only things you need to see at night are the signals and distance markers. So long as you know at what points you start braking and what the signals are saying that's about it to begin with. It's not like you're expected to make sure of your pathing, have obstacles or lineside incidents to make note of in game

Its like real train driving at night. :| Hats off to the real train drivers, Steam drivers could tell where they were by the way the train road or the noises it made over certain sections of track.

Have to say shunting at night is very difficult.

Not sure if you gain any extra AP for driving at night or in bad weather in TSW?

This issue is across all platforms. There should certainly be more ambient light in towns and cities or even on a moonlit night. The headlight projection from locos etc should still light up lineside objects and a short distance ahead.

I probably couldn't stop my car from 70 MPH in the distance the headlights project, but that doesn't mean they don't light up the road ahead.

Through work I've rode a lot of trains in the dark up front. It really depends on the train. In the uk the older trains didnt really light much up at all, in fact the principal function of them was to make the train visible to others. Modern LED lights should light more up though, there should be a good reflection off lineside signs for example

Personally I like the lighting on dresden riesa because it seems to strike a nice balance between dark sections and ambient light in urban areas. Whether its realistic is another debate, but its nice for gameplay

In the cabin it's imposible to see, if you play with normal configuration. The problem exist.

There is a head light on your head you can shine on things quickly or to find the cab light to turn on. Sorry but I have forgotten the key to press to turn it on. I will look later on

Your eyes are very sophisticated, far more sophisticated than an electronic screen.
They are constantly adjusting to different lighting levels to give you the best view. But they can’t do that when the view is supplied via a screen.

It’s the same with the instruments in the cab, in real life you can flick your eyes down and they will automatically focus onto the dials whereas in the game you will have to zoom in to have any chance of reading them since your eyes cannot control the screen.

Unfortunately it’s just a side effect of playing on a screen. However, since they make compromises in other areas to make driving trains easier, I do believe they should make compromises in the environment to make seeing easier. A lighter night would be helpful and I believe is necessary.

Unfortunately it’s not ideal playing a nice early morning or early evening service where the sky is a little lighter as the platform/street lights don’t turn on and all the stations are stupidly pitch black. It’s a shame as the ambient lighting is really nice in the dawn/dusk.

Fixing the station lighting so it stays on through dawn and comes on at dusk is a priority so we can enjoy those slightly lighter skies.
