https://www.npr.org/2024/12/15/nx-s1-5229628/drones-congress-new-jersey-east-coast-sightings For the past few weeks, here on the US East Coast, people have been reporting nightly groups of large drones. What started out in New Jersey over residential areas has been spreading to other neighboring states, as well as Virginia and California. The drones have also been reported over sensitive areas such as military property and high-security infrastructure like bridges and ports. There have been reports in my region of NY State, but I haven't seen anything other than planes, helicopters, and satellites (saw the Starlink once, that was freaky!) Stewart Airport had to shut down due to drone activity, as did an Air Force base in Ohio. A couple guys just got arrested for flying one too close to Logan Airport in Boston. The drones are supposed to be pretty big, much bigger than the normal hobbyist and commercial ones we usually see. I've got a small "pocket" drone my father-in-law gave me that I mess around with, but it's good for maybe five to ten minutes in the air and has no lights. Some local businesses use the bigger ones around here for photography, surveying, and real estate, but even those aren't much bigger than a few feet. The ones I've seen pictures of and that are being reported on are small car-size and stay in flight for hours, some with lights and some without. My take on it, is that it started out as some "secret" government test that they were just hoping people would ignore as an Amazon delivery drone or something and didn't expect people to freak out at the large floating things with the lights in the sky (DUH!!! YOU JUST MADE A BIG DEAL ABOUT UFO's BEING A REAL THING, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?!!!) Some of the other reports I think are just stupid people with bigger hobby drones being asses for the sake of it to take advantage of the panic, and the rest are probably just planes, helicopters, etc. Honestly if they were a true threat from Mr. Putin, Mr. Xi, [insert bad guy of the week here], etc. then the military probably would've knocked them out with a drone net or signal jam by now. We popped the damn Chinese balloon (after a few days, remember that?) with a missile, I don't think a drone would be any safer from violent interaction if it was indeed a visitor from an unwelcome country. The fact the government has acknowledged it but essentially said "don't worry about it", is extremely telling... especially when the governors and senators from the affected states are basically shouting "WTF!!!" right now.
Although, @-_-LivvuAurora-_- may be on to something... Official Reason For New Jersey Drone Sightings Is As Likely As It Is Boring
