So, quick play, a new feature released for us to jump straight in. I love being able to randomly jump into something and be surprised what it is. A great addition.I now have in excess of 10000 services to choose from so this is great A few months ago I asked if this would receive additional functionality like being able to specify length (service duration slider or such like) a little more and perhaps some more filters to rule stuff in or out like scenarios etc. If I recollect correctly it was suggested that with bug fixes and with needing to understand the features usage it was a sit tight scenario. I think we're a good 4 months on now approximately, bif patches have been released and new stuff announced. With that in mind......Has there been any further feature development planned, going on, or due to be released for quick play? Thank you
My problem with quick play is that it freezes the whole game for minutes during the loading process of all timetables. They really need a good cache to sped this up. I will not even try till this is solved. It probably is not an issue if you have low amount of content. And that may be the reason nobody noticed during testing.
It is an intriguing solution to having so many routes, it can sometimes be hard to choose where you want to go. I either work through in alphabetical order or occasionally have a theme where I do just German or US or maybe classic UK for a few days. But even then there is so much to choose from... Of course there is always the chance it will put you in a bugged scenario and does it mark off your Journey if the run or Scenario it picks happen to be an element?
Chief, I had to reassure if this is the TSW or the TSC forum. Nice, I missed a lot obviously. This feature sounds cool to me since I learned Dynamic Weather is never active in Journey Mode and I used to do all the journeys prior anything else in good ol' TSW2 times. Guess I need to change ... ;-) To workaround the loading times it seems to me that only uninstalling DLC is a solution right now...
Perhaps you should be able to filter the randomness, I.e. exclude certain countries or types of route, or choose from (say) German conte t only.
Quick play is a very good feature but as people say, it could do with some sort of pre-caching, with additional filters by country, passenger/freight/shunting, and 30/60/90 minutes. (Simple tick boxes which are all on by default would be fine)
The game hates me. I got the out and back scenario on Dresden to Riesa. 35 mins from Dresden to Coswig calling every shack Dosto cab car, change ends and all stations back again.
Yeah I get a slight hang when I Open the feature but I do love its concept. It'd be good to see it expanded further
Actually it can also pop up some pleasant surprises. For my second dabble I picked a short run and got the Football Special from Lewes to Brighton on ECW with the 313. Very nice. Think I might be using the randomiser a lot more.
Similar, on PS5 there is a noticeable delay of around 5-10 seconds, but certainly not minutes (I have a full 60-odd GB of routes installed). Perhaps worth raising a ticket for the delay you are seeing Rudolf
I might be completely wrong here, but I would guess the way Add-ons Manager is set up, those loading times might be lessened when it's released.
Just on this - it's something on our backlog, but other things (Add-ons Manager has taken a lot of the UI team's resource, for instance) have taken priority at the moment.
I had really liked the idea of this as, often than not, it's the time available that hinders me rather than the desire to drive (or not drive) a certain route. Unfortunately, at release of TSW3, the dynamic weather did not appear to work on Quick Play and neither did it spawn in creator's club liveries. As that was the case I kinda shrugged and thought 'ho hum, nice idea but missed a couple of tricks' and promptly went back to timetable mode. Two days ago I had 30mins spare at lunch and thought I'd investigate again. Quick Play threw me into Tees Valley, at Lackenby, unloading coal from a pair of green class 20s in the fog at 7am. As I worked through the fog the sun came out and the fog dissipated leaving me to trundle out and back towards Tees Yard in bright blue skies...... dead happy
This all sounds good. The last time I tried Quick Play, it put me on a service I had already completed. That caused me to stop for a while. It is definitely something I would use more, if it worked better. I am also still waiting for the day when you can preview the selection and "roll again" if you desire. Still a work in progress, I suppose.
The one and only time I tried quick play, it threw me into the steam route. Which I've never played before. And it didn't give me any tutorial help. I could have sworn somebody at DTG, in a feature video, said quick play will always give you the tutorial first if you've never played the route/train before... But I do like the idea of the feature, now that I've returned to playing since 2 days ago.
You are correct, originally it was set up to do tutorials first. However, due to popular demand, this was removed, although I think you can add it back in if you like, somewhere in settings.
I'm pretty sure it was launch day of TSW3 when it did that to me... Was it removed prior to launch or after? I'll look through the settings, anyway.
The game loves me tonight! Just produced a Class 40 hauled passenger run on NTP, Man Vic to Leeds... My Lords!!
I did quick play 30+h today, and got Clinchfield sd40 manifest 0130h drive, in the middle of course weather changed from clear sky to snow storm, besides it was August, I had great time, these old DLCs have soul, they are the core of TSW for me.
Glad you enjoyed it - one of the great things about Quickplay is that you can end up playing stuff you forgot you had (and enjoyed), or finding out something new about something very familiar.
Must admit I haven't had anything from the US/Canada routes but it is finding me some interesting stuff I wouldn't necessarily have tried otherwise.
