Here's a new North American narrow gauge tourist railroad yet to be created for TSW 5. It would go from Durango to Silverton. The route is over 45 miles. It would be set in the present day. The D&SNG rolling stock would include K-28 Class 2-8-2's, K-36-Class 2-8-2's, K-37 Class 2-8-2's, rail buses, GE 92 Ton's, MP200NG's, GE 55 Ton's, GE 50 Ton's, GE 45 Ton's, GE 87 Ton's, DL-535's, and rail busses with passenger and freight equipment. It would be awesome for TSW 5. The Durango & Silverton recently bought 4 new diesels from the White Pass & Yukon and 1 new MP200NG engine.
It would be an incredible route with the massive K-28 Class 2-8-2's, K-36 Class 2-8-2's, and K-37 Class 2-8-2's along with narrow gauge switchers, and narrow gauge diesel engines.
This is a route that I want in game. It has a bit of everything: history, steam and diesel locos, and amazing scenery. Durango's yard and roundhouse would be an awesome place to explore. I still haven't been to the D&SNG yet, but it's on my list of train places to visit.
Would be great scenery but with the caveat service levels from what I recall are two or three trains out to Silverton in the morning, returning mid-late afternoon and one short teatime trip that turns back en route. Other caveats I can think of are the current state of steam traction in TSW would not do the loco's justice. AFAIR the line is unsignalled and worked by train orders or track warrants so that would need to be robustly implemented. Last and not least is whether the company would licence their operation in a commercial sim product.
I am very familiar with this operation. A one-way trip is 3 1/2 hours, so it wouldn't really be suitable for TSW. Also, the line is unsignalled and controlled by timetable and radio-issued track authority operation, which is not simulated in TSW.
I’ve been pushing for white pass & Yukon, narrow gauge alcos, newer GE’s, and Steam, you have the shorter route that loops glacier lake, and the full route that they use steam for. They could even do older era freight/passenger ops as well
FYI, it's available as a railroad preservation charity route (done by G-TraX) for Train Simulator Classic here: https://www.drhs315.org/ds-train-sim/
