Do you need to put in the launch command to use DirectX 12 in Train Sim World 3, or is it enabled by default? Secondly, is the launch command -dx12 or -DX12... I've seen both ones used.

It is not enabled by default (and not officially supported).

    -DX12

Steam launch commands are case-insensitive, so -DX12 and -dx12 both work

The obvious question is whether TSW3 runs under DirectX 12 and, if so, what's the difference compared to the earlier version??

Different people have had different experiences. Some find it better, some worse, some (like me) get no difference.

I've always had it as -DX12 so from the first time using it I've had it enabled. I was worried I'd been using the wrong command all this time. I'm going to disable it and see if it runs any better or worse. Does DX12 have any visual differences?

EDIT: I tried turning it off, but there is little difference, maybe 2-3FPS less.
