I would love to see the San Diegan route around the time of Amtrak taking over. Based on what information I have gathered the Locomotives would have been EMD E and F, Both A and B Units, SDP40F and the F40PH which appear to not have ditch lights. The passenger cars appear to be all of the streamliner era type or Former ATSF Hi-Levels, it also appears that Amfleet cars and Metroliner cab cars with the pantograph removed and no ditch lights were also used.
The route is approximately 126 Miles long from Los Angeles to San Diego, Based on an advertisement from 1971 that I came across on Amtrak's History Site, the trip took approximately 2 hours and 55 Minutes. From Los Angeles Union Station the train would stop at Santa Fe Springs, now known as Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs, Fullerton, Anaheim, Orange, Santa Ana, Irvine, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, Oceanside, Carlsbad now known as Carlsbad Village, Encinitas, Del Mar, Old Town and finally Santa Fe Depot.
