Wanna hear a fun fact about Berwick? During the 1800's it changed country so frequently in peace documents you had to say "England, Scotland, Wales and Berwick upon tweed" This led to them TECHNICALLY being at war with russia untill 1935 where they singed a peace treaty. Yeah thats litterally all I know about Berwick. Jokes aside this would be an amazing route if done well.
100% yes for me, personally think the bit along the Berwick coast is the most scenic part of the line. Newcastle is often a common crew change point to increase realism. I would also add the branch line to North Berwick to liven it up a bit. As well as making Waverley much busier later wise.
The era should be set in 2021 Trains to be used include: The Class 800 is a bimode multiple unit used on Intercity services on the East Coast between London King’s X and Edinburgh Waverley. It has a max speed of 140mph but is limited to 125mph due to signalling Class 220/221 (DLC) The Class 220/221 is a Diesel multiple unit used on Intercity Cross Country Services and was built in 2004 by bombadier transportation. It should be added as a future DLC due to difficulties in getting the License Class 803 A relative of the aforementioned class 800 this is a purely EMU locomotive used by FirstGroup on their open access operator Lumo Class 385 (Layer) Class 802 A BMU similar to the 800 but with a uprated performance on diesel
Intercity 225 An electric High Speed locomotive used on the east coast for services between london and edinburgh
Scenarios LNER Flying Scotsman: Drive the 05:40 LNER AZUMA service to Newcastle Non Stop Lumo Inaugural Ride Drive a new Lumo train from Newcastle to Edinburgh Calling at Morpeth Electra Express Drive an Intercity 225 LNER Swallow from Newcastle to edinburgh calling at morpeth, berwick and Edinburgh Trans Pennine Drive the 802 TPE newcastle to edinburgh calling at Morpeth, Alnmouth, Berwick Upon Tweed, Reston and Edinburgh
Suggestion is too long for a TSW route. Need to think of a 50 or 60 mile section which is going to be Newcastle to Berwick or Berwick to Edinburgh. As regards era, any section of the ECML absolutely needs a Deltic on it.
92 miles isn’t too long, and scenery wise there’s not too much performance intrusive areas and the stations are relatively easy to model apart from probably newcastle and the berwick area
Still too long and as the post above states and I have just confirmed from the Ian Allan Gradient profile book the rail distance is 125 miles. Ergo, not coming to a TSW route anytime soon.
Well their information is wrong. The Ian Allan book or a Sectional Appendix will state the correct operational mileage. According to Google maps, the most direct road journey is 103 miles and using the A1 which roughly parallels the railway is 117 miles. So 92 miles is complete and utter baloney.
The how the crow flies distance from Newcastle to Edinburgh waverley is 92 miles but the actual distance by rail is 125miles
Excellent idea and what you are doing here is the British version of the German route Schnellfahrstrecke Hannover Würzburg Kassel Wilhelmshöhe Würzburg Hbf segment 186km 115 mi 125mi 200km If made longest route ranking 1.) ECML North Newcastle Upon Tyne Edinburgh Waverly 200km 2.) Schnellfahrstrecke Hannover Würzburg Kassel Wilhelmshöhe Würzburg Hbf 186km 3.) 144km SEH 4.) 140 km Cajon Pass. The only way to surpass East Coast main line north is that the developers will merge HRR with HDU 202 km to become Hollandstrecke Duisburg/Bochum Utrecht Centraal.
