We have the ECML South from Peterborough to Doncaster, it's now time for a northern leg of the route. With an option for Immingham Docks for Intermodel freight. It would allow to continue the route with the class 801 as well as freight to the north. It would allow overlay with the class 142, 153, 158, and 170 as AI with Northern and Transpennine Express, different freight companies. Trains to include on the route would be the Intercity 225 sets, as they can be done from the days of Intercity to their current days with LNER. Class 180 with First Hull and Grand Central to Hull and Bradford. Class 67, one is always at Doncaster for 'Thunderbird' duties. Class 156 for the Doncaster to Lincoln service. Services could include stock moves in and out of Doncaster Plant, bringing stock to Doncaster for maintenance ect. Deliveries to the National Railway Museum as York would be in the game, rail tours as plenty pass through including Flying Scotsman and Jubilees.
I imagine if another section of the ECML was to be added, it'd be set in a different time period to now, since if you look at WCML Preston - Carlisle and Euston - Milton Keynes, both are different periods. (Plus Spirit of Steam from Liverpool - Crewe if you include that) However the Deltic and Class 91 are both wildly requested to the game, so I think a route set in BR, Intercity or even GNER, respectfully, would be highly popular (even if I'd personally prefer to see the 91 added to the Peterborough - Doncaster route we currently have, or maybe it could layer on to that with an LNER livery if you have both the current section and buy the hypothetical section you mention here)
The problem with going north of Doncaster is finding the sweet spot for distance. Doncaster to Darlington is flat and boring, unless you like long stretches running at 125 MPH. Darlington to Newcastle too short, so maybe York to Newcastle which gives you the racetrack, then the windy scenic bit through County Durham. But by finishing the current ECML at Doncaster, DTG have created a bit of a gap situation. That's assuming they even plan to revisit the East Coast. North of Newcastle you have a similar issue. Newcastle to Berwick would be a bit short and most people want to go on to Edinburgh which would be too far. And I support the view that if anything else comes out for the ECML, please set in the late 70's so we can have Deltics, 47's and Valenta HST's working side by side. Just Trains to the stage, please (after all, we will have the Mark 2 aircons later this year which were the mainstay of the ECML loco hauled services).
They'd need to be very careful with scenery re lod - for example, to avoid conundrums like the forth bridge popping in, they'd need to put Durham Cathedral, various bridges at NCL, utilita arena etc. on persistent tiles
