Apologies if I use the wrong terms, feel free to correct me. Scenario building and such really isn't something I have the time to get into at the moment though it might be something I try in the future. However..... there's a pre-installed scenario that's bugging me because the speed limit changes down at the lights before the one indicated on the HUD. I think it occurs in a couple of places. Is it realistic for me as an absolute beginner to first make a backup of the offending scenario (in case I break it), and then edit it to correct the errors? Or is the learning curve to do just that too steep?
Yes this is easily done and is one of the advantages of TSC. You can clone the scenario in the edit menu and it will become a Standard version. You can then edit the new cloned standard version any way you wish. It is easy to change times in the scenario. Changing speeds is done at the route level. Is there a specific scenario I can help you with to understand what is happening. Certain routes expect you to respond to signaling over and above line speeds shown on the HUD. To be honest one is expected to know the line first and know what speed changes will take place. Let me see if I can help you.
Thanks Kilt, I'll take you up on that. I'll need to check out exactly which scenario it is and I'm not at home ATM so I'll get back. Thanks again.
Are you driving a German or Austrian Route? The Change of Speed for Drivers is indicated by the Signals which changes at the Signal and not the points. So if you change the Scenario to a Standard one what else will you change? You either have to drive Faster than the permitted Speed or you change the track layout and Signals.
Thanks for your reply. I can't check the route ATM but I can recall that HUD shows the speed change at the signal. I don't understand your last two statements (italics)?
If you read what you first posted. "However..... there's a pre-installed scenario that's bugging me because the speed limit changes down at the lights before the one indicated on the HUD. I think it occurs in a couple of places." You talked about changing the Career Scenario to a Standard one - what difference will that make to the Signalling?
It is, believe it or not, also possible to replace a faulty scenario with a corrected one. I should note there is an element of trickery involved, and some require the cloned scenario you create using the tips here, but others fix scoring issues and can be done without cloning the scenario. Maybe I can show you sometime. I have a couple in mind to demonstrate with and can explain methods. You can also clone as a Career scenario. It does not have to be Standard.
You're assuming I know what I'm talking about. I didn't appreciate that what I'm asking had that effect. I thought I would just edit the career scenario.
German routes are controlled by the speed posted at the signal. This overrules the value posted on the signage. If you see an advanced signal (advanced warning of an impending change) it should show you the expected speed (e.g a 5 would mean 50km/h limit at next signal). Best to read through the manuals which come with European routes. They do not behave like UK signaling.
I can't get to TSC at the moment but when I can I'll post a couple of screenshots to cover what I'm talking about. I accept that there's here's a definite probability that this is me not the scenario!
I've just had a go at it. Its the one in the attached image. I use the HUD (as the second image) to keep an eye on speed limits but in this scenario the limit changes before the place indicated which is confounding me. If its acting correctly how am I supposed to know. Are there advance warnings or something I'm missing? Thanks for any help. Sorry, should have added, it happens early in the scenario if anyone want to give it a try.
You seem to be under the impression that all signalling systems are the same in every country. We have mentiond that German Signalling is done by the Speed and not the Route. A Signal will have a combination of lights that say how fast you can go from the signal I think kilt46 gave you graphic showing what the signals mean.
Not quite, I'm under the impression that the number at a section of track on the HUD indicates the speed limit from that point onwards.
Notice the signal with a '6'. This is posted at the 'Distant Signal' warning you that at the next signal the speed restriction will be 60 km/h. This value overrides the HUD value (which is the sign post value). Straight after you will see the Main Signal also with a '6'. At this point you MUST be at 60 km/h or less or you will be speeding. Hope this helps
