    Hello
I am fairly new to Train Simulator and after getting used to playing and driving I want to have a go at modifying a route I have. I went into Build and cloned the route so I don't do any damage to the original but when I click to edit it I am presented with empty fields. I thought it would open with a copy of the route that I would be able to modify and add extra track and to add or take away buildings etc. Apologies if I am missing something obvious but I have looked around online and at YouTube tutorials and can't find anything that helps so advice welcome and most appreciated. I am not looking to publish anything it is just for personal use.

You'll find a load of tutorials here.

Skip through and others will come up.

    Hello Cat
Thanks for your reply. I had already looked through Matt's tutorials but they seem to be for building a new route from scratch or creating a scenario. As I mentioned I just want to edit and modify an existing route but the route is not there when I click on edit and instead I am just presented with the blank start you get when creating a new route. Should I be able to see the cloned route when I click to edit it or maybe I have misunderstood something and cannot do this?

    UPDATE:
I have now tried cloning a different route and I can now edit this so the problem I have been having must be something in particular to do with the other route I was trying with.

First thing I would check is whether you have spawned in the route map where there are assets rather than "out in the middle of nowhere". It's more than possible the edit spawn point never got moved

The route I cloned and could edit ok was Woodhead, the one I had problems with was Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. If I use the original KWVR and open edit it does open ok for me to edit but obviously I don't want to touch the original but the cloned version won't open the same. I have since found as well with the cloned version that if I open to create a scenario that works then I can go on to edit the scenery by switching to Drive and opening the World editor there.

I had a similar problem with the SSS Southampton-Weymouth route. When Cloned I was in the middle of nowhere although the 2D map was there when I zoomed out. Tried copying the lat/long coordinates of Southampton station and pressed Go but it would not take me there.
No problem cloning DTG routes though. A mystery. :(
I'll mail SSS to see if they can help.

I have taken a couple of screenshots to show the difference between what is shown when I click to edit the route.

K1 shows with the original route and K2 shows with the cloned one.

Click on that marker and move it above ground by clicking on the Upwards Arrow.
Alternatively Ctrl+Shift+Home takes you to Ground level

When you say you could not edit some routes did you check they were unlocked -
    padlock near the play button

I don't have the KWVR but I tried this in the SSS Southampton-Weymouth route and it worked.
    Load the cloned route.
Press 9 to get the 2D map, zoom out with the mouse wheel until you see the route map.
Zoom in to where you want to go to, mouse point and left click there.
In the top centre dropdown is a small white arrow., left click on that then right click and you should be where you want to be.

You're welcome, I only learnt that one today by coincidence. . Route building is a long learning curve.
