Hi all and apologise to those tagged. I am wanting to send something here on the fourm so that all can see it and also hopefully this will push in right direction. Is there any chance of editor getting updates which fix broken stuff. Understand improvements can be held back maybe for later down the road but fixes that solve bugs were having and fixes that mean we arnt hitting walls that just stop our creativity for those of us not wanting to mod or replace stuff already in the game. DTG Alex DTG Matt obvs you two are prob the best people to read the above but i just feel the editor fixes are just not happening and using the main game as reasons to why we arent getting the fixes i dont think is fair on the community. One example reason is following: editor updates have to be released with the game updates to keep stuff in sync. I hope something can be done cause its a shame one editor bug can potentially destroy weeks and months of work.
So for example I think a good way the editor could be handled is the below - The Editor gets fixes in between the patches the game gets. Prior to the patch for the game going out a group of people wether they are paid or non paid position but all sign an NDA will use the latest version of the editor which has the propsed fixes etc in. If all goes well the patch for the game goes out with the latest editor build. If however for whatever reason the build of the editor which have had the fixes done for is not working correctly in terms of being worse then prior the fixes then the standard editor update goes out which just keeps asset versions correct etc. - This is a good way to do it cause you are one not having in house people working on the game also trying to test the latest build of the editor allows editor and game to run side by side then one being more favored then the other. - Your allowing people passionate about game delevelopement and also railways and trains to help more in line with making the editor great where they understand it's in their own time and would prob be unpaid. - The main person which works on the public editor in house is able to more work with people using the public editor more so then the in house one. There would be more to figure out but as a start I think the above would be a good way to do it. Also, the community wouldn't feel let down and left on road side with an editor that in places isn't fit for purpose.
