This loco pack would feature 4 locos that would give the brighton main line a 1980's feel to it BR class 73 (can haul Gatwick express, ordinary passenger, freight or civil engineers trains) 4 VEP (can haul commuter trains or semi fast and fast trains to Gatwick and Brighton Class 33 (can haul 4TC, passenger and civil engineers trains) 4CIG (can haul commuter trains or semi fast and fast trains to Gatwick and Brighton) Liveries: The 4VEP and 4CIG would be in BR blue/grey livery The Class 33 could be in BR blue or civil engineers grey and yellow The class 73 could be in BR blue, Civil engineers grey and yellow or intercity style Gatwick express livery Rolling stock: The rolling stock would be a brand new addition to the game. It would be: Class 488/3 and 488/2 (this is the loco hauled Gatwick express stock in Gatwick express livery) Class 489 (the Gatwick express DVT in Gatwick express livery) BR Mk1 in blue/ grey livery BR seacow engineers wagon (used to haul engineers train and would be in civil engineers grey and yellow livery) Scenario ideas: (Difficulty level 2) Drive a Gatwick express class 73 from Victoria to Gatwick and back (Difficulty level 4) Drive a BR class 33 (double headed) on a civil engineers service from Newhaven town to meldon quarry from wivesfield to Clapham junction. However, a train failure at coulsdon south means that all services now terminate at Redhill or go via the quarry line this means that there will be busy traffic and the icy conditions will make delays very likely (Difficulty level 2) With the 4 CIG units currently under refurbishment, class 33's and rakes of mk1's have taken over their services. Drive this class 33 to Reigate calling at all stations (Difficulty level 3) Drive a 4 CIG unit non stop to Gatwick airport and then semi fast to Brighton calling at three bridges and haywards heath there is a light drizzle from Victoria and it gets worse after Gatwick . watch out for the red signals! (Difficulty level 2) With extra capacity rush hour services needed, 8 car 4 VEP units have been modified to have a 4 TC unit in between. Drive this service from Brighton to London Victoria calling at : Brighton, Hayward's heath, three bridges, Gatwick airport ,east Croydon, Clapham junction and London Victoria
Great suggestion. I think you could also layer in Class 47s as they too were very common on intercity services. You could also layer in other wagons such as hoppers for aggregates from Newhaven commonly hauled double headed 33s
Although ugly (to many), the Class 460 Juniper units were are part of GatEx history and fairly recently too. They were only ever found on GatEx services and should/could be included. Locomotive DLC is very lacking on many routes with London Commuter being no exception. I would like to suggest one other type for consideration, the 5BEL Brighton Belle EMUs which were somewhat special and different.
I'd say for a lot of routes (oldish ones) make like 19.99 loco packs like the bml one with historical ge, southern and the much needed thameslink? Maybe even a little steam train for old times sake.
I wonder if you can add in a 4CEP 2HAP combined formation to BML or not? If added 4CEP forms the front while 2 HAP is the rear section. Another excellent suggestion would be a combination of 4CIG with 4BIG link to wiki articles on other Southern Railway multiple units https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Railway_multiple_unit_numbering_and_classification
Iwas thinking that they could maybe be used on a separate east coast way route dlc as they were mainly used on the Seaford branch (2hal)
I could add it however the dlc is set in the late 80's and early 90's. I know that the 460's were introduced to the bml in 2008 and that the 5 bel was withdrawn in 1972
Not me, I'm a Vader fan, quite like several older Alstom UK DMU's & EMUs, so the variety would be welcome on the LC line. Definitely behind the class 73 push-pull sets with the 489 & 488 stock, they would be excellent too. I also imagine prior to 2005, there was some crossover of sharing the rails with the 73 hauled services before the 460 reliability upgrades. Though the 442 sets would be sweet for 2008 onwards as well. Edit: found out it was the case, they shared the line in 2001, that pic is at Horley. The second pic I can't find any info on, but it was probably made around the same time and the third is even earlier again.
Thanks for the images. I believe that picture 2 is a poster from br to promote that they were building the class 460's
