The game is great in all sorts of ways - but for steam trains it has always lacked a realistic depiction of the effect of going under bridges/through tunnels etc. I'm told that this used to exist under MSTS but hasn't made it into the 21st century.
So here is an initial attempt at recreating the wonderful sight of steam trains going under/into bridges/tunnels/stuff - let me know what you think:

There is a thread under 'suggestions' that covers this (https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/smoke-steam-collisions.83259/#post-876526) but I thought I'd post it here to see if there was a general appetite for something like it.

Explosive smoke emitter scripted to the locomotive?
When properly done it can provide a spectacular effect but there are so many variables to consider like train speed, weather, throttle, exhaust velocity etc.

In general, giving your preferred weather patterns a 'wind' will already make a steam locomotive look more like like, preventing the balloon over the chimney.

Track-linked emitters positioned under the tunnel/bridge etc. In a finished version these will interrogate the approaching loco to understand regulator position etc.
My observation so far is that you can get a good-looking result with a fairly simple approach.
