Hi guys. I bought new headphones with an USB sound card with dedicated software. I started experimenting with equalizer settings to use the potential of the headphones. Are there any players here who have proven equalizer settings for TSW? For now I try sometchink like this:
Really hard to give general recommendations, because It depends on so much factors that influence the end audial experience. In fact, each and every headphones/speaker has a different frequency response. Therefore needs different adjustments for the equalizers. And then of course comes the subjective hearing and your personal taste into the game. Some people like bass boosts to hear the rumble there better, others prefer a flat or almost non-existing low end. It completely depends on your system and what you want to hear. Therefore I can recommend adjust the settings of your system to your own favor. That's the only thing which is truely possible and in the end the only thing that matters (not the audial recommendations of somebody else's taste).
Too many variables. I run my sound through the built in Realtek sound on the motherboard. Only offers limited options, a few presets and never really looked to see if there is an equaliser. What I do know is that the output from the speakers is pretty good, but when I plug in a set of supposedly quite decent headphones the sound becomes washed out and tinny. Unfortunately as the wife doesn’t want the sound of trains travelling around the house while she’s reading a book in bed, I don’t have much option there!
For washed out: First make sure the cables are plugged in correctly. Second, sometimes the sound get washed out at my external soundcard even if 1. is done right, however there seems to be a technical fault (either due to the old sound card or cables) and twisting the plug in the port helps to get the sound right. For being too tinny: Maybe you need an equalizer application to bring the low frequencies more in then? (just like OP)
Whatever suits your ears and listening preferences, I'd say. Just tweak around. But not all the sound sets for all routes and trains deliver the same frequency levels. There're no homogenic sound fields throughout the sim. So, you'll have to adapt anyway according to the route and loco.
i using speakers would know some people what for settings they use if they use like me Fx sound with equalizer apo
I've used headphones for gaming since the very beginning, with a base boost switched in and noise cancelling, not so much for the better sound but to cut off all the distracting noises around me. This annoys the wife because she has to go to a different floor and/or room and tap me on the shoulder to get my attention, which is another advantage.
I know how you feel. My wife accuses me of not listening at the best of times. She complains about the “train racket”, so I put the headphones on and then regards it as a weak excuse for not hearing when she subsequently natters on! She’s lovely really though.
