Approach to Aschaffenburg, all RB/RE services. Towards the end of the long straight approaching the station and yard, there is the expected yellow/green Vorsignal, you brake down moderately hard from 150 to get below 85, and expect at ~1km the normal yellow/green Hauptsignal mounted together with the double-yellow Vorsignal for the stop ahead. So far so good, EXCEPT.... BEFORE you get to the second signal, an active 500Hz magnet goes off and ZBs you unless you're doing under 40. Can this be right? Shouldn't the 500 be AFTER the double yellow?
This is correct, since you are approaching a main signal with a Zs3 Kz 3 (Langsamfahrt mit 30km/h, slow approach with 30km/h). Speeds below 40km/h are typically secured by an active 500Hz magnet (the same sometimes happens when coming into Gemünden or Hagen on RSN for example). The tricky part is that the distant signal does not announce the 30km/h, so you kind of have to know, depending on the service, or you just generally brake to below 60 and react once you see that the 500Hz is active.
If you have RT, approaching the last station at Markkleeberg, there is a permanent 30km/h speed limit that is also protected by an active 500Hz, as well as entering the freight yard Langerwehe (I belive its called) on RRO you will find the same. And yes, I always catch myself thinking I have understood PZB fully now, and then there is still something new to learn But that's what makes it interesting
