When the alerter is on, the power is losing and the brakes are applied suddenly from nowhere. The alerter itself does not make a sound. And if you turn it off, the brakes are immediately released. I'm not sure if this is related, but every time the automatic brakes were applied, the power handle was in the 3rd position.
