The extensions to SEH improved the route tremendously, and rumour has it a similar treatment is coming to LIRR (Its true its a rumour) Was just wondering what other routes people would like to see extended, here in no particular order are my three suggestions Main spessart bahn extended to Wurzberg with high speed and local lines GWML extended to Swindon or Oxford, and Heathrow and Marlow branches added, and appropriate stock added. Kassel to Fulda local lines added to Kassel Wurzberg. What does everyone else think or want?
Oakville subdivision, expand it to Union Station in down town Toronto, or hell even further east to Oshawa.
Personally I think if the LIRR stuff proves true it’s another section (route) not extension but time will tell. Some Extensions I would want to see; GWE to Heathrow (class 332) ECML to York (I would say Leeds aswell but probably asking way too much) SEHS to Sheerness on Sea (finish it up good) Dresden Riesa to Dresden Flughafen (let’s restore what should have been) NEC Trenton to Philadelphia (do what should have been done)
MML extended to Sheffield and Lincoln would give the rolling stock like the HST more thrashing. MSB extended to Frankfurt. HRR definitely.
This should be a new business model for DTG going forward. The appeal is there from fans. Like I’ve mentioned before, if there’s some way they can make a part 2 for an existing route and merge them. It would be like playing any single player game and loading into a new area, as long as loading isn’t too long to break the immersion. So for example on SEHS. Faversham to Dartford, then part 2, Dartford to Charing Cross.
This is something that indie developers should be involved with. I am sure there is a market for route extensions out there and this isn’t something that DTG seems eager to do in house. My picks: Dresden-Riesa extension to Leipzig Harlem line extension to Southeast and Wassaic SFS Wurzburg extension to Gottingen and Hannover Linke Rheinstrecke extension to Frankfurt
-Sand Patch Grade: Extend from Rockwood to Connellsville (+43 miles) -Sherman Hill: Add Track 3 -Peninsula Corridor: Extend to Tamien Station + add the Port of Redwood and Pier 96 -Cajon Pass: Extend to Yermo and West Colton
Reisa-Liepzig for the Reisa-Dresden DLC North White Plains-Southeast for The Metro North Harlem Line DLC Finnentrop- Siegen for the Rhur-seignord DLC
The public PC Editor isn't capable of extending routes by the community. Routes come cooked which means you can't extend rail networks even if - in the case of DRA - big parts of the tracks are already laid by the first party. So the only possibility for extensions of that kind is still only up to DTG alone. As I said before, it's okay if they don't have the time and capacities to extend routes. However, it's a different thing if they prevent us from doing it. Edit: The new add-on Salzburg-Rosenheim is also a good example for a great opportunity for a community-based extension, since the assets for München (Munich) main station are already in TSW. So it wouldn't even be necessary to model them on your own.
As stated many times before… GWE - add the Thames Valley branches, including the freight branches though not Heathrow as discussed ad infinitum and extend to Oxford. NTP - extend to York and Liverpool. TVL - extend to Boulby and Bishop Auckland, or even Whitby or perhaps up the Durham coast towards Newcastle. ECW - extend to Ore. Cathcart - A bit more Glasgow suburban network. WCL - through to Plymouth. MML - on to Sheffield or up to Bedford.
It is widely known the ECML TSW4 route to Doncaster is being extended or will be. Maintalbahn as well.
SEHS to Dover and Ramsgate (≈40 miles) ECML to York (≈35 miles), with interior of National Rail Museum modelled and accessible MML to St Pancras (≈100 miles) ECW to Ashford (≈45 miles) HBK to Puttgarden including a train ferry (≈60 miles)
Ive played sherman hill i think there are a few runs where you get routed on track 3 , its been a while but i may go back and see which ones
Track 3 on the West Side of the route is in game, Track 3 on the east side of Sherman is not, even though the track is laid, it would also include the UP connection South to Denver, and a small expanding industrial zone outside of Cheyenne. It could also extend BNSF's line in the Area and add AI trains to that line as well.
ECML from Kings X GWML to Swindon or Oxford Oakville SD to Central Toronto Gospel Oak to Richmond with 378
The 3 routes I would like to see extended are. 1. GWML Electrified From Paddington to Swindon and Newbury. 2. Rosenheim to Munich including the S4 and S6 lines from Ebersberg to Donnersbergerbrücke. 3. Risa to Leipzig with a rework of the S-bahn Network
o Ok did realize there other trackage ..I noticed in a dvd i was watching of 1990s action on sherman hill there a cutoff line that loops around the chemical plant ..they caught a few trains on it think it was called Borie cutoff i see they have that in TSW i ve thought about trying to to see if i can run a train on it in free roam
I would advise to keep extension hopes to around or probably under (it was a core route and easier to market) the standards of what SEHS did (the ashford section whilst long was extremely basic/minimal scenery) trying to aim for pretty much what would be another full route isn’t probably realistic. Anything like ECML extension to Newcastle or London or Dresden to Leipzig will be going well further than an extension I would say. even the 20 miles to York could be too much to act as an extension, the limit will be a lot less than anything related to a route size. (Especially if you ain’t looking/willing to be paying £30 for them)
Some routes I'd like to see extended: ECW: Extended to both Ore and Wivelsfield HRR: Extended to both Dusseldorf and Dortmund MSB: Extended to both Frankfurt and Wurzburg BML: Multiple choices, such as to Lewes, Horsham, Caterham, Tattenham Corner, even Hove etc RRO: Extend to Dusseldorf WCL: Extend to Plymouth
I'm not sure any of this is realistic. DTG have yet to make an actual route extension and have said they never will. What they have done is one route which was rebuilt and reissued in an expanded form. But how would that work, as a practical commercial matter? SEHS could be justified, budget-wise, as a "new" route which was sold all over again to purchasers of TSW3, whether they already owned SEHS or not. But how would an "expanded" Brighton or GWE work? Sell it as a new route, pissing off owners of the old versions? Give it away as a free upgrade, which would never, ever get past the accountants? I'm not seeing it.
SEHS could indeed be justified. just like the Meissen branch on DRA. in TSC DRA has had an extension from Riesa to Leipzig for 20 euro's. That adds a second timetable and route in the selection and if you have both you can drive Dresden to Leipzig. For such big extensions (65k in this case making a full 153km route) I wouldn't mind paying a reduced route cost like 20 euro's. as seen in this thread a lot of routes could use a revisit to update to TOD4, a better timetable or an extension. even adding some branch lines to spice up the standard A-B trips would do for some routes. sadly the executive decision to kill the preservation crew has been made since TSW4 what in my opinion is very bad. All those new routes being released more and more often with less trains leaves a lot of bland and uninteresting routes. if they start fixing what they have now. even 6 year old bugs apparently being still overlooked for example. they will have a game full of good routes and a way happier playerbase. New routes are nice. but losing customers isn't the best strategy I'd say. I suppose with no change, long live the editor.
it is an extension, just the method isn’t particularly the fastest, method is essentially a new route but that’s the choice they made to do it as, anyone who had the original now just see it as being extended, plus extra timetable, scenery etc update stuff.
By a genuine extension, I mean a separate module which is purchased independently and plugs into the existing route, like a loco DLC. DTG used to do that in TSC, but have stated they will not in TSW.
that’s ok, the method how they go about it isnt the important aspect, but what the players receive is the only thing that matters.
Well let's say... HRR: Düsseldorf - Dortmund RRO: Solingen - Hagen HBL: Altona-Travemünde DRA: Flughafenbranch and Radeberg/Ottendorf-Okrilla RT: Lepzig Hbf (oben) & Leipzig-Leutzsch (Freight) BRO: Add branch Hude-Nordenham SKA: Add northern branch Langerwehe-Eschweiler Talbf-Stolberg-Stolberg=Altstadt LZN: Add Ebikon+Waldibrücke branch LGV: Add branch Avignon TGV- Avignon Centre and maybe Nimes Pont du Gard AVL: Branch to Van Nuys (Pacific Surfliner) OSD: Branch to Hamilton GO Centre
Chances are slim to none that DTG would extend any current routes. However, there's nothing to stop them rebuilding a route with a built in extension. For example, they could build a new version of the Harlem Line out to Southeast plus the shuttle to Wassaic with a BL20G trainset. Sell it as a completely new dlc and I think it would do very well. This is what they're apparently trying to do with LIRR. Problem is, once again, this kind of thing requires thinking outside the confines of a tightly controlled little box.........
GWML to Oxford via Didcot would be nice. I am a big advocate for it, as it's the first route I played back in TS2014, and was definitely my favourite!!! It think it's not too long, and it gives us the opportunity to still carry out an end-to-end run, being the PAD-OXF run with either the HSTs or 166s. I'm not too optimistic as I've read elsewhere that DTG lost the GWR license - I'm not sure if this is true And where has it been stated that the ECML will be extended? I havent seen any official news about it.
there isn’t, they are probably referring to the community talk on it being substantive but worded that incorrectly as confirmation.
And engender a torches-and-pitchforks mob of players who bought the old version and are demanding they get the new one free.
re selling the same route but it being longer is a different thing to selling an extension, people quite rightly won’t be interested in paying for the section they already own twice.
The amount of extra work involved would justify it as a new and separate route. Or do you think that routes should never be done over? If LIRR 2 ever materializes, it won't be free to anyone, previous owners included, unless, like SEHS, it's part of a bundle. People have, however. Bristol to Swansea and Pen Cor in TSC. Plus when we buy the annual editions of TSW we're basically getting the same routes we already own, perhaps updated, plus a couple of new ones in a bundle. People grumble about that of course, but most buy it.
SEHS being the only extended route is unfortunately a bad example for sales on others, it was put as core route therefore will have a different sales expectation and reality to say a general addon.
I don’t have a clue with TSC stuff mostly, never played it, I don’t doubt it will make sales but how much ? Is it popular to sell the same route twice ? You would be better selling it as an extension rather try to make DTG do the same route again for the sake of getting the part that you wanted to see. I don’t understand why you would want the same section again when you could just get the extension without it. I want to see Doncaster to York section put in on the current Doncaster to Peterborough section, I would in no way ask them to re sell me the Doncaster to Peterborough section.
The only way an extension will happen is if they either change the way they make routes so that extensions are easier, or offer extensions as part of core routes. They're the only two ways I see it happening.
ECML. Either extend it northwards to Newcastle or southwards to Kings Cross (and York as it’s only really one station). Plus we basically have almost all of the rolling stock needed to make a very busy ECML if we don’t include the 180, 91 and 717 (and the 80x variants which would be much easier to rehash.) New York to Trenton should be extended to philadelphia, would make the acela services feel more fleshed out. Brighton mainline with the London Bridge, east grinstead and Sutton branches would be quite nice. Also, WCL with an extension to Plymouth, because it would have made the route so much more enjoyable, and the GWE extension towards Newbury and didcot parkway. Most of these are very unlikely with the way DTG is though
Thinking the same thing, maybe if they did another extension for it we could get to Beijing, Moscow is a bit too close I did say in another post above these would come up and they may aswell be forgotten as extensions.
While that is sarcasm, it does lead into a thought I have about extensions, which is 'where do we stop?' Earlier in the thread you suggested the Sheerness Branch as an extension. I like the Sheerness Branch, but then people will ask why not the Medway Valley Line as well, which would allow for more freight. And then extending it from Ashford to Ramsgate, first via either Dover or Canterbury, then both. Why not extend it from Faversham down to Dover as well? What about bridging the gap between Faversham and Ramsgate? That's the problem, as soon as an extension is done there will be the question of what else can be done - even if we're at the point where Southeastern High Speed has somehow turned into the entire British railway network, there will be a thread on here saying 'please extend it to Lille'. And I wouldn't even call it a community issue. In Train Simulator we are very close to having the entire Southeastern network in the game. there's a large network being developed covering the suburban routes in London, and me and some friends are working on extending the existing Chatham Main Line to eventually create a merged route that will allow you to drive the old high speed loop service from St Pancras to St Pancras via Faversham, Ramsgate and Dover. That's great, but then we'd want to merge it with more routes, and more routes, and build the Marshlink Line, then more after that. It never stops. TLDR - Set your limits before starting a project to avoid scope creep.
If it's something that keeps getting little extensions like that. I think RSSLO did it to combine 4 of their routes into one. making a 365 KM route if you have bought all of them, it's a small fee to combine them (7 euro's). I would personally love to see that now they became third party dev for TSW.
The sarcasm part is related to when people see the extensions as whole new routes or more length/development wise, in all honesty it’s very possible something like Doncaster to York is being quite long for such a thing, maybe just say making it possible to be classed as an extension, anything like Doncaster to Newcastle or Doncaster to London and beyond is going way too far for extensions and we are then talking new routes what have just been technically (development wise) put into one, the extensions really need to be seen more like branches than lines, anything over 20 miles and it may aswell be forgotten, 20 like I say with York is still probably pushing it. of course there will be suggestions of this the same way DTG does something like SEHS and people will come and say why didn’t you do the WCML, suppose people will have to understand not all will be done at once and what isn’t is future potential but not guaranteed, the only real limit is DTG’s willingness (profitable at the end of the day) to do it and how much a route can actually handle by itself.
